Newbie Cam question
#1
Hey everyone, love the site and have a couple questions.
I have an 03 5.3 Z71 what does that relate to in "LS#" terms?
Have an opportunity to pick up an ls6 cam 12565308 & Z06 Springs (Beehive Style, Standard LS6/LS3 Springs(GM PN:12499224) for $240
Would installing these require anything else? ie. new pushrods, a tune, etc?
its a DD so I dont want to get too crazy (yet)
Thanks

Welcome, Yes you would need new push rods always when doing a cam swap and a tune wouldnt hurt, To find out your best anwsers go to the search and search ls6 cam swap there has been tons of people on here that have done that swap

Your 5.3 is an LM7, but LS1/LS6 engine parts will all bolt right on/in...except the intake manifold which isn't a direct swap on a truck, due to interference with the accessories. It's already proven that the truck intake is better than the LS1, and the LS6 intake isn't worth the swap.
The truck will run with the factory tuning, but to get the most out of the cam you'll definitely want to get it tuned...I'd want a higher stall torque converter too as guys who have run the LS6 cam report that the power doesn't come on until 2500+
