I responded to what I thought was a bogus ad in the Trading Post for a 2000 LS1 longblock for $500. Met the guy Saturday, fully expecting a hunk of junk.
Needless to say, I left there $500 lighter and with an immaculate LS1 longblock!! All it's missing are the intake and exhaust manifolds and the accessories. The guy that I bought it from works at a local dealer--the motor was a GM replacement longblock that went into a high-profile customer's T/A. The customer complained of a "noise" that nobody could seem to track down. Rather than spend the money to look into the problem, they decided to give him a 3rd engine. Why can't we all be so lucky?
The guy that I bought it from said that there is a definite noise, and the only problem that he could find was a loose timing chain, although he didn't fully inspect the bottom end. That's just fine for what I plan to do with it!
The motor is SPOTLESS inside. There is no oil discoloration on the pushrods, inside the valve covers or anywhere! There is a little normal carbon buildup on the pistons, but other than that it looks like a brand new motor!!!!
Sorry this is soooo long. I'm just excited! I plan on going w/ forged internals and a nice shot of the giggle gas!

Just a few thoughts/questions:
* Can I use the truck computer and reset things like fuel curves, shift points, rev limiter (like bumping it to 6400-6500) etc with EDIT?
* I plan on using all of the factory accessories, intake manifold and oil pan. Any surprises I might find?
* I'm assuming all of the headers will bolt up. Right?
Any other things I should look into?

I should be there. But no one here in town knows that I have the motor except for you know. I'm trying to keep it a secret!
I'm not going to go with the 212/218 cam...you want to buy it here in a few months?

I'll have to let you know. If you make it worth my while, I'll take it out now. I'm not sure when I'll be taking it out though. Probably won't be for six months or so.
How about $250?

Sounds like a good price to me. Did you change your springs, or having any valve floating over 6000rpms. I leave in December to go to Maine. Not looking forward to the cold.

I went with Comp Cams 918 springs and Thunder Racing chromemoly pushrods. You could probably get away with Z06 springs, but I'd rather be safe than sorry!
I'll see if I can get the cam out by then, but it all depends on my mechanic!
