Lightbulb New to Chevy's Help with STS

Hey guys, Im in need of a new truck, to get to the point heres what Im thinking.

a 99 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 with a basic STS system at 5psi, headers, cutout, stall, and a mild cam. Plus tuning, (ls1edit?)

Basically what would be the fastest setup, AND which setup would be th most durable.

Its either going to be a RCSB or a RCLB, and it will probably be a 4x4. What kind of 1/4's am I looking at.

Example 99 RCLB 4x4 2500 with 6.0, STS at 5psi, headers, cam, tuned. what 1/4's?

99 RCSB 4x4 with 4.8, same setup as above, what 1/4's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

I think you would get better performace buying a meth kit or innercooler rather than headers, and cutouts.

If you had a RCSB with a 5.3 at 5psi I bet you could get in the 13 to 14 range. with a cam and a little more boost, 13's maybe even high 12's.

I'd look for a RCLB just for the 6.0 and 80e. or a RCSB and build the 4l60e trans up. I don't like the looks of long beds myself.

Hey thanks man, yea I want to stay away from tranny build ups and engine swaps at first, so Thats why I was looking for a 2500 6.0 with the 4l80e and not really have to worry about it. But if the 4.8 or the 5.3 are quicker with the same setup, I would head that route.

So If I had a 2500 6.0 with the STS at 5 or 6psi, intercooler or meth inject. (pros and cons?) a stall and a tune, would I be knocking on the 13's door? My target is a high 12 low 13 reliable daily driver. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

P.S. I usually dont like the looks of a LB, But I saw this 2500HD in forrest green(or w/e they call the color, its a dark green) It looks sick, and just the thought of a 12-13 second 3/4 ton truck gives my warm fuzzy's, haha

If you don't want to build the trans then I'd go 3/4 ton or anything with a 4l80e. I think you can get away with 5-6 psi on a 4l60e (mine lasted two days before I started noticing slip, and about a month before it wouldn't shift out of second.) but you will need to put money in it to keep it going.

I think you could get to 13's easy with about 10 psi and a 6.0 and a stall. A tune is a must. Not sure what it would do at 5-6 psi. You might find some good info on 1/4 mile times in the fastest truck list.

I ran a 14.77@99.75 in a 1/4 @ 5psi with the crappy 00 PCM. I haven't put any new time down @ 8-10psi because of traction problems. Even with the 5th wheel hitch and tool box on the truck I still can't get any traction @ 5psi

My firend brad, he and his dad both did the STS kits. one on a 98 LS1 camaro other on a 98-99 GMC 1500 with the 5.3 The truck did 365 wheel hp and 46X something wheel tq on 6 psi. The truck has not been to the track but it feels like a mid to high 13's second turck. They have now installed larger injectors and have not been back to the dyno.

As for the mether vs Intercooler. The price of the intecooler from STS is going to be like $1995 or something like that. Where as a meth kit can be bought for $450-500 new. You can set up different way, but most of the people only have it spray when you hit high boost. High boost depends on so many different things its hard to talk about. Meth gives you the ability to run more boost on pump gas. Alky kits work the same way. We supra guys and buick guys seem to use the Alky kits more than meth.

Anway fo rexample say i can fun 6 psi daily with out an intercooler, Well if im feeling frisky i can bump it up to 9-10 psi and spay alky or meth. This will let me run the higher boost on the same gas.

I have read where sts kits on the 6.0 are in the 11's.
