Default New car problems

this isnt a truck question but yesterday my brother bought a Rodeo. The clutch was going out and we tried to make it home from Houston with it slipping really bad. Anyways the clutch went out about halfway home. I turned the car off and then started it back up. It started for about two seconds and then died out. He now has no power to anything and it acts as if its shorted out some where. Is it possible that he got the clutch to hot and melted something in the starter? I checked all the grounds and they are good. The power wire to the starter seems fine but i cant feel up to the top of it all the way. Any ideas???

ok, i have some questions for you first, im not to much of a technical expert on a rodeo, but i wouldnt put a burnt up clutch to a power issue, i wouldnt expect the two to be related. First you need to follow the power, to do this, u will need a multimeter. i dont exactly have a set of power schemactics for a rodeo laying around, but u gotta start at the battery, and work your way back, ur saying when u turn the key, theres no power anywhere??? no lights radio, ac, nothing????? dead car????

sounds like a bad connection from/at the batt pos or neg...check them carefully for tightness and look for any corrosion...they can look ok and not be so...elec was good before, right?

Ok i unhooked the postive from the battery and hooked up just the hot wire to the fuse block and i can get power but when i hook up the wire to the starter it seems to cuase a short to the whole system. The reason i mentioned the clutch is because im sure it got extremely hot and it is right next to the starter. Could there possibly be a short in the solenoid(sp?)?

I guess we will check the solenoid when we replace the clutch.

You've probably found your problem.
