Default New best ET/mph with HD, also updated Superchips/HPIII results

A week ago I compared the Superchips microtuner to the Hypertech HPIII at the dragstrip, on my 2500 HD 4x4 6.0
I was only able to do 2 runs stock vs 2 runs superchips vs 2 runs HPIII at that time, and Superchips won hands down, with similar 60 fts, etc. I did further testing this last saturday, and was able to get in many, many runs, as there were only about 20 cars at the track. The only changes made to my HD were: removed the canopy (weight savings of probably 150 lbs, removed stock muffler and added two magnaflow mufflers, EGR mod, and ported/polished the throttle body. My previous best was a 16.26 @ 86.59 mph w/ 2.41 60 ft, launching in 2wd (Superchips tuning). My new best this last Saturday, with very similar weather, but approx 5-10 mph headwind, was a 15.736 @ 88.76 mph w/ 2.32 60 ft. I made numerous other runs at 15.75's at 88.6 mphs, with similar 60 fts, so it was consistent. This was launching in 2wd. Never tried launching in 4wd. The fastest times consistently came with the Superchips tuning, both ET and mph wise. The only time the HPIII was close was with the 93 octane tuning, and even then was still slower both ET and mph wise, with major pinging. Both Superchips (no options available different octane tuning) and HPIII set on 87 octane did not ping once. HPIII set on 87 octane was consistently 1 mph slower and several tenths slower ET. I tried the shift change RPM's that Brooke recommended, and several other combinations, including the same shift rpm changes that Superchips uses (between 5600 and 5700 rpms), but still couldn't as good results as with the Superchips (even with similar 60 ft times). I even used the Superchips tuning, with the HPIII piggybacked to raise the shift points up to 5800-5900 rpms, but that didn't seem to help any. Looks like I'm sending back the HPIII for a refund.
Also had a chance to race my brothers duramax/allison (stock) yesterday on some back roads. He has the exact same truck, except motor. Raced two times, first time he launched from idle in 2wd, I let him get the roll on me, then punched it. Wasn't even close, I probably put 8-10 lengths by 90mph. Second time he launched in 4wd, at full throttle to get his boost up. I launched in 2wd, and let him get the jump again. He immediately put about 2 lengths on me, but by second gear I had caught him, and by 90 mph I had probably 3 or 4 lengths on him. He was planning on keeping it stock, but now appears to be interested in doing a few mods.

I imagine that was enough of a beating that he'll be changing some things soon <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> He doesn't like to lose either. I met a guy about a month ago, who has a 3500HD GMC 4x4 with the duramax/allison. As of a couple weeks ago, his was dynoing 380 rwhp and 620 rwtq. No propane or nitrous, just increased boost, better injectors, and good programming. They were going to play with the exhaust some, and a few other things, and see how close they could get to 400 at the wheels. I've had a chance to drive it a couple times, and believe me when I say it's an animal. Turbo lag is virtually non-existant, and when you punch it, especially when I stepped on it while I was cruising at 55, in a matter of seconds I was doing 90. I didn't want to chance breaking anything on a rig that wasn't mine so I didn't try this, but the owner said he regularly launches it in 4wd, and spools the turbo up against the brake, and launches. He says it's a quite brutal launch.
