Nelson or vhp
#1
Going to be getting a tune for the new truck soon. I really want the nelson but need to know a few things about it first. If I put a nelson tune in,if I have to take it in for warranty work will they know it and will it still have my vin # in it. Also I am not willing to go over a 89 tune because of gas prices, will a 89 help very much. About all I am planning on doing is a few bolt ons and maybe a small cam so either one will work with this.

I've had the Vinci Tuner for 8 months and love it. Worked great with the stock cam, then I installed the Vinci 043 cam with 1.8 Cranes and in 3 minutes the engine was fully tuned and ran like Jack the Bear. Coming soon, headers and cat back and the tuning is all in there, no extra expense. After that. I'm going to do a Magnuson supercharger and again the tuning is in there. No extra charges. I know it will work, because I hang out at Vinci's and have seen several other trucks like mine with similar setups come out of there. My truck is an 03 Tahoe 5.3. Cam is 210/218, .562/.562 (with the 1.8 rockers). Also, the truck has had to go back to the dealership twice with modest warranty issues and there has been no problem. My vote is for the Vinci. Spend the money once and you don't have to keep paying. BTW, Roger Vinci told me he used 23 vehicles and 47 cam installations (10 with superchargers) in developing the tuner. It was developed by Crane with Vinci's input. This isn't just another programmer. It has a lot of "custom tuning" and flexibility built in!

I've got the crane programmer very impressed
w/performance.Plus the customer service was great
I don't know about nelsons as i've never had one or knew anyone with one Ihave heard great things about nelsons though. One other thing about the crane I talked my buddie into getting one for his 04 5.3 mines an 03 but with his 04 after the tune whenever the a/c would cycle the truck almost died, even going down the road, crane replaced it with another but same thing happened so they returned his money. So if you have an 04 be leary unless they have corrected the problem.

I don't understand how the Vinci tune corrects the calibrations of a new camshaft?
There really isn't so called "constants" (things that are known to be different), after a camshaft swap. I mean, of course you know, timing & the air/fuel % will be thrown off, but I can think of 10+ tables in my HP tuners that correlate in fixing these variables.
So, how does it correct the tune?
Is there some sort of target base, that the tune shoots for and fixes any problems?
