Or am I off base?

I already have EDIT...I thought that I would have to buy my own version since no one here in FL has the unlimited truck version of EDIT. I was told that I had to get it myself so someone could tune it.

I guess it was just a case of bad timing on my part, but now I'm stuck with EDIT and have no idea how to tune it, and if I want a Nelson Tune then I have to pay MORE than my 1/2 of EDIT (I went in with someone). I had no idea that a service like this was around.

Couple of questions, though....

1)Also, why the different pricing for different years? That part has never made sense to me.

2) How can a mail order tune be as accurate as a dyno tune? Especially for someone like me who has a little different combo than the average truck guy?

3) Can you tune for the 4L80E tranny swap?

Again, this isn't a flame on Allen at all. I'm not downing his skills, just seems a bit pricey IMO, and there are just some things that don't make a lot of sense to me.
No problem Scream, I'll answer your questions. I don't take it as a flame.
It's your money and I would want answers too before I paid someone to tune my truck.
You're right on the unlimited truck tuning, there aren't a lot of tuners out there.
Pricing: the newer the year, the more it costs; I have to buy the unlimited version and the newer versions are always more. So, I have to charge more for the newer trucks. If I were to charge the same for all years, I'd be loosing on the newer trucks. btw, I'm not the most expensive, you could pay more for a performance program.
Tuning: A mail order can't be as good a dyno tune, as far as numbers. There are too many variables and without actually tuning the truck at the shop...
I like to tune for real world driving. Everybody raves about how important a dyno tune is, but there is no substitute for real world driving. All the obstacles you run into, air, uphills, downhills, tip in, all play a part in how much timing and how a/f is corrected. Don't get me wrong, a dyno will always tell you how much HP you're getting but trust me, the minute you take it off the dyno and run it on the street and then monitor it, you'll be making some adjustments. Driveability tuning is just as important as getting max hp from a dyno tune. I do dyno tune, however, those are just numbers to me, sure it's nice to know how much hp you have but it's also very important you get downshifting, upshifting, KR, max timing , a/f ratio all lined out on the street too. I guess I've done enough to know what works on the street in order to provide a nice mail tune.
Your tune: I've tuned many combos, yours is not too extreme and with a little bit of monitoring and changes, yours would turn out just fine.
4l80E: Sure, the 4L65E trucks use the same pcm, it's just a matter of getting the right flash and tables lined out.

feel free to ask away, I don't mind,

allen

edited: btw, most ppl will spend about $250 for an air intake, $250 or so for some flex fans, about 600$ for a full brand-name catback, and still not get the power gains of a performance tune. I'm not flaming you guys who have these mods, I have them too, and they are some of the first mods we do, and they do all add up and contribute to future mods, but that's less hp and it cost a lot more than a tune. just a thought.

Are your tunes locked? I have Edit, so could I tweak the tune if I made changes that affected the A/F ratio later on?

01thunder, when allen tunes your's does he use YOUR edit, or his own edit? if he uses your edit then that's why you can change your setting on your edit.

In talking with him .. I got the impression he would use his. I mentioned having EDIT for myself on my truck and he said that wouldn't make a difference in his.

He also said that him doing a tune for me would give me a good base to start on. If you read in his previous post too, he says that no tune is perfect for you, even a dyno tune, and mentioned that he would be changing stuff as soon as he got a chance after driving off the dyno.

I'm gonne assume that he doesn't lock them and doesn't necessarily use your EDIT.

"Slow" Allen uses HIS edit and I use MY edit to make changes. you forget HE has the unlimited version and can access any PCM that is a LS1 based motor.
no HE did not use MY cable to tune MY truck, HE used HIS own cable.
