Default in need of traction

after the radix goes on, I'll need more traction on the street and at the track...

I'm thinking if I try to use slicks with no traction device I might cause severe axle wrap and break something, and I don't have the money for caltracs so I was thinking Lakewoods. Anyone know what part # fits our truck? Will these work with drop leaf springs?

Where is the cheapest place to get some slicks (either hoosier 28x10x16 or the DOT quick time pro version) and some 16x8 rims? Any recommendations on wether to get the qtp's or regular slicks?

and for the street, what is the widest tire that will fit on a 20x8 rim? any recommendations? GTII's probably wont cut it.

thanks in advance

IMO, I think you should look into a 4-link w/ coilovers or 'bags for traction... I know somebody here knew a guy who sold em w/ coilovers for $600... can't remember who though... maybe they'll chip in...

As far as tires go... I think the widest tire ur gonna be able to fit on a 20x8 would be 285, maybe a 295 but no bigger than that... as far as good tires for traction... Nitto 555's are good, I think BF Goodrich makes a good traction tire and I think the Kumho Ecsta's are supposed to be good w/ traction too

yeah, maybe later on I'll look into fancier setups but for now I'm looking for a cheap way I can run slicks at the track without breaking anything, and I guess I can either just take it easy off the line or get some Lakewoods - they worked pretty well on another truck I had - at least for keeping axle wrap/hop from hurting anything

they recommended the HD kit 22026 for our trucks but said it may need different U bolts/shims - theyre only $65.95 at summit so I may try em out. Most likely I'd just put them on for track use then take them back off so it isnt a rough ride on the street.

The cheapest i found Lakewoods for our trucks was $149. Our trucks need the notched ones, which they told me were more.

I was thinking about using the same setup the 4x4s use to stop axle wrap. The long track bars would just bolt on, and stop ALL axle wrap. I think Thunder was going to do this too, so he might chime in and know more than me.

About tires, does Nitto make DRs for 20" rims? That would hook nice on the street.

I would not look at GT II's they are very bad when it's wet. I had a little oops this morning in the rain and hit the curb head on at about 40mph. Guess I got lucky did not hurt anything on the truck or anyone around me.

Any more info about the track bars? I just got my truck out of the body shop today and looked under - there isn't room from Lakewoods - the lowering leaf springs have 'spacers' under them so the mounting plates for the Lakewood bars would have to be enormous.

20 dr's would probably be out of my price range at the moment, and they wouldn't last long with daily driving

I can get a good deal on some slightly used Hoosier slicks (non-DOT) but I dont want to use them w/o bars. What if I were to just take it easy on the launch instead of stall it up? Would it still be too much? I can get some kind of t.bar setup later but I need to have everything ready to go in less than a month for a truck meet and dont have the time or money for caltracs (also dont want a stiffer/noiser ride then I already have)

I have found a way around the design of the lakewood bars and will be testing it here, soon. made my own design.
once I finish getting them fabed up, which is when I have time to do it I will let you guys know.

Do you think 10" wide slicks are going to hook good enough? Theyre 28x10x16 regular Hoosier slicks, non DOT

I was able to hook my T/A with the Hoosier QTPs and I think they were 26x10". That was with heads/cam and 3.73s. I ran 1.57 60's on em so you should be fine if you heat em up right
