Thanks. I think that makes my decision. I dont know too many people that have messed with Futral, but that kind of clears it up. Its too late to call, but do you have any idea what he charges?

PCMforLess did a true dyno tune for the SS and Nelson did a site unseen mail order tune. They installed both and performed comparison tests for both tuners on the dyno. I can't remember the numbers put out, but Nelsons tune produced 1 HP less than the dyno tune from pcmforless. Pretty impressive in my opinion.
I have that Mag and it's CHP (Chevy High Performance) and Allen's mail order tune was 1 tenth and 1 MPH off from the PCMforLess hands on tune. And I'm sure this was before Allen's tune had enough time to "wake up". But hey if I was in your shoes I would do TR's dyno tune then have them street tune it to my liking. I went to Allen as I always do because of his reputation and also because he's only about 2.5 Hrs away. Even when he dyno tuned mine we still went out to street tune it to see how it would pull it's own weight around and we ended up changing a few things on his suggestion and I couldn't be more happy w/ it...Zed

Yea I know 12sec5.3, I didn't know he had problems with his tune. Been a while since I talked to him in person though. I had heard thunder had pretty much a generic tune they used with just about everyone. Now I'm all confused again.
You think a streed tune would be just as good as a dyno if the tuner is riding with you and can make changes till he gets it right?

I heard the 99's had a big problem with kr. Could this be some of the problem 12sec5.3 was having?

even the best tuner out there can't always get the tune dead on from a few hundred miles away. i've personally fixed a few issue's someone has had with their quite often pricey tune that could have only been fixed properly with a wideband and logging software. thunder racing without a doubt know's there way around gen III performance. i'd trust them for sure.

Like I said before, its all about who you feel comfortable going to. You really need to call and talk to the guys and see what they offer in tunes. Customer support, re-tunes, dyno/street tunes, and how aggressively they will tune and the ability for future mods should all weigh in your decision. I have heard nothing but good things about both Futral and Thunder so either way you should be good. I do have to agree that in most cases street/dyno tunes are the way to go, especially if they are close to you. You have to think that if you ever do any future mods how available it will be to get your tune updated.

Im not knocking anyone but since you are doing a cam even if its a mild one I wouldnt even take a chance with a mail order tune. You live very very close to Thunder Racing-enough said and you are also very close to Futral-dont get a mail order tune please. Pm 99SilverdoSS he has a Futral dynotune and he swears by it.

Let me say this .. I've tuned on some mail order tunes, and they were NASTY! Lots of KR. I didn't feel comfortable enough to even open it up, it was that bad! I'm not saying whose mail order it was, but it wasn't Nelson's. With Thunder and Futral that close, I just think you would be a fool not to visit someone close to you. Thunder and Futral both have been into LS1's for some time now and have more than enough experience to be deemed competant.
