Default Need some advice from the 4X4 guys!

Alright, my buddy has this 1989 extcab toyota pickup v6 that he thinks is just the offroad king. i said ... my dads denali awd 6.0 would tear that apart. he says "lets have a tuggle war then." i say fine... so tommorow or whenever we're gonna go out to the dirt and he thinks he can pull me. any tips on how i should approach this? should i put it in 1st, 2nd, gear or put the tow haul on?

i dont see how his v6 3200lbs will compare to the v8 5500lbs in a pulling match but whatever

sounds like fun, you shuold get it on video. if he has a low range and better tires for the dirt and lockers he MIGHT pull you but even with all that i doubt it. you shold be able to drag him around like a water skier.

Get the rope / chain tight before you take off so you won't get whiplash.

This is going to depend on the terrain and traction: Let him have the jump, wait until he is getting on it and his tires are spinning, then take off in a controlled manner and pull him back home. As long as you still have traction, it will be a cake walk.

the trick ive heard is to just stay stoped long enough for him to start spinning his tires. once he has done this,,, its all over. just try not to spin yours and drag him all over!

DONT USE A CHAIN!!! Unless you would like to be minus a rear window and part of your skull!! Your vehicle out ways his by at least 1500lbs and should have no problem pulling him where ever you want, but on the other hand if he does have lockers or gears and really any type mods and decent offroad tires we could take you faily easly just due to the traction issue. This is coming from first hand experience being I have a 92' Toyota w/ lockers, gears and 38" tires and a highly modified 4 banger that has pulled my 00' 5.3 all over at will. I would give you the advantage if his Toy is not a "all out" offroader!! Good luck and make sure you post that video!!!

what kind of tires do you 2 have?

He has a good advantage because of his low range, but you have a good advantage with the fact that you are an SUV. Your rear traction will be better, but the AWD t-case may hurt you because it prevents wheel spin, that may actually hurt you

the denali has stock tires, the toyota has 33's. i knew the tires would be his biggest advantage. but still, could he pull a 5500lb vehical with his truck? his towing capacity is barely half mine. if i put the brakes on i dont think he'd even be able to pulll from a stop.

btw, ill get it on video but ill need someone to host it

with 33's it's going to come down to how you play it, he could pull you but if 33's are all he's got on his "offroad king" forget it!!!! Seriously use a ****** rope of some sort if you use a chain your pop's is going to **** himself when he see's it!!!
