Default Need opinions and help!

Hey guys i told yall about my truck a few weeks ago a 1999 4.8L rcsb and i needed a few opinions of what performance mods to do? I have K$N drop in filter and flowmaster 40s exhaust si/do. I have saved up enough money to start modding this lil 4.8 approx. $4000. I would like to know of what things to do in order from what to do first to last. I really would like a supercharger so i could be a sleeper but i saw on the sts that the 4.8 benefits the least out of the v8's. Maybe its just their system i know i need a nelson tune or westers but i heard of getting bigger injectors for a 99 and swapping out the pcm. I just would like everyones opinion on whats the best bang for the buck for 4k. I was hoping around 350HP and if that sounds stupid then tell me what kindof hp id be looking at. Thanks for your time and help guys,

Mark

With 4k to spend, i think you could get 350 pretty easily. Id do a cam, stall, gears, posi, nitrous, intake, and long tube headers. You could do a supercharger, but im sure a radix which is what id go with will cost well over 4k. or you could drop a 6.0 liter with cam stall etc and have 400 pretty easily. Remember, your tranny will not last to long after you add all this power.

I would say a STS turbo but you were saying that the 4.8's don't benefit from it. I didn't know about that. Kinda brings my hopes down for my lil 4.8. I love the video for that Z71 in the tunnel.

My STS runs great on the 4.8. I've got about 4K in it with the injectors, fuel pump, FMIC, shift kit and all, but I bought the kit used and did all the work and fab stuff myself. Don't be fooled by the numbers on there website, they are from the magazine install and had no real tuning. With proper tuning, the 4.8 works well boosted. I think Chris99GMC is still selling his complete STS w/intercooler and upgraded turbo for $3500. Might want to look in to it. As far as DD drivability of the turbo, you don't even know its there till you steep on the gas

your best thing to do is swap for a 6.0 and get a cam stall and tranny and if money is left work on the motor

I would really like a turbo but I just can't seem to save my money to well. I'm going to run my truck this weekend hopefully and see how much the nelson tune helped out. It helped out alot but still can't beat my friends Nissan Titan. Maybe after I order those pacesetter headers i will be able to take him.

Personally I would start with the drivetrain first then motor. I would do gears 3.73 or 4.10's, posi, stall 2600 or 3000, servo's, good shiftkit, & trans. cooler. As far as motor mods I would do cam, springs, long tube headers, run true dual exhaust, cold air intake, tb, mass air, intake maybe, nelson program, and some nitrous. Fans would be good too. Don't forget some good tires.

Go with a LQ9 swap. Then slat in a cam, stall and GEARS. The right gears will wake up ANY motor. I'd put some 3.90's in there and a Eaton if its 2wd, and 4.10's if its 4x4. Wish I had $4000 to spend on mine
