Yes coil springs would be the cheapest way. But any way you go, an alignment will be needed. I would suggest control arms, a little more $$ but the ride smoothness is not sacrificed. If you do springs (yourself) try to take them down from the inside. If you pop the ball joint and damage the boot, your in for a headache on replacing the ball joint. I have a 3" spring drop and have replaced both lower ball joints because the guy that did it busted both boots. I have since learned to do it myself. Let me know if you go this route and DIY. There is a lot more I can tell you to make it easier.
BTW, what about the back end of the truck, why only the front?

I just put 2" springs on mine and it is a breeze once you figure it out. Definately do it from the back side. All you have to do is detach you swaybar endlink and steering arm. Then use two floor jacks under each rear bolt on your lower contol arm. Remove the 2 bolts and carefully lower the jacks at the same time. Once all the tension is off the spring lower the control arm all the way down and pull the spring out from the back. repeat in reverse order for installation.

The most cost effective are coils on the front. I have 3 inches coils on my 01 scsb. just remember, if you go lower youll have to cahnge you shocks if you wan t to retain some sort of quality ride. Call western Chasis, they have a 2, or a 3 in spring, do shackles, and a hanger in the rear, youll have a 3/4drop. I bought doetsch tech shocks with mine, great ride.

If you are only going to drop it 2 inches I personally would just replace the coils. That is the way I would do it if I had to do it over again.
Whatever you decide, do not use the Bell Tech dropped spindles. It increases the turning radius too much.

You can reuse the stock shock, but they will wear out quicker. Remove the bump stops also. One thing all you guys may consider doing is putting lower spring cushions on. That will eliminate any rattle that the shorter springs will give on long extensions, if you have any noise. My 3" drop rattled on large bumps at 10 to 25 mph.
