Need Long Tube Help asap.....Questions
#1
OK,
Installed my ASM LT's today, but due to my true dual setup, the intermediate catted pipes didn't fit up like planned. I have run out of time today with all the muffler shops closed and the one I wanted to take it to is closed tomorrow. So....I am running staight headers righn now, its running decent....for straight headers, idles and all, but I am worried about having to drive it to the muffler shop to get the problem fixed. One its loud as hell, but I can take back roads to avoid cops hopefully, but what is the risk of damage to the engine running it with straight headers. I am going to have to drive it about 15 miles, but speeds should not excess about 35-40 MPH.
Also, other problem. I got the headers installed, and the fitment was great, except the bolt on the steering shaft is rubbing the header when I turn. Its more of an annoyance right now, cause the truck is running pretty rough with straight headers, but I know that this is a problem. Is there a solution? Possible to use a bolt with a shorter head on it, grind the head down a bit, or put a little dent in that primary tube on the header?
Any ideas or suggestions on either problem will be greatly appreciated.

i dont know about the clearance problem with the steering shaft but you will be fine runnin straight headers just to the muffler shop and I dont think a cop would do much if you told him you were on your way to the muffler shop right now
you wont hurt anything as long as you keep the rpms low and then all you will do is float a valve and you might fail your o2 sensors if they are still on there

yea just grind it down, i ran open header for about 3 days while i was lookin for a muffler shop that wouldnt give me any **** (meineke tried to tell me since it had a catlyst sticker they could work on it and it would be abotu 1000$ to replace everything so i said f-them suck on it) i probably drove about 50 miles open header and everything was fine. ok well not open header, i had about 6 or 8 inches of tubing on the end, the rest of the Y wouldnt fit but its close enogh to open.

when i put the headers on my friends truck he drove it around for a week before he had me hook his true dual exhaust back up..he went cruisin around like that..and on my truck i drive it a few miles open header..sounded good..somewhat like my race car..but i could tell it lost some torque..down low just sucked
