Default need input on Z06 cam

Ok ive asked this before but didnt really get a good response. I plan on eventually procharging my SS, but i was thinking of doing a cam swap. The price of the Z06 cam really makes me want to buy it. With a 3000 stall, Do you guys think it would be a good cam for my truck? I dont see why this wouldnt be a good cam for a 6.0 truck with a 3000 stall. Wouldnt this also put my power numbers in a similar range to those of the z06 as well?

Also I read that you need longer push rods to run this cam, what push rods do i need to do this??

I used to be big on putting in a LS6 cam but honestly, for the effort you go to install I don't think you would see a big enough increase. Your better off with a Comp XE cam cause 6 liter intakes have longer runners for bottom end torque so you defeat the purpose of the set up. They recommend that you use 7.450" pushrods cause the LS6 has a .050" smaller cam base circle, the LS6 makes up for this with .050" longer valves. But the longer pushrods will put more preload then anticipated on the lifters, you could shim the rocker arm .025". The ideal pushrod is 7.427" but you can use your stock 7.400" pushrods with a little extra valvetrain clatter. I havn't ruled out purchasing a LS6 cam, it did show a 30hp increase at 6000 rpm on a LM7. Basically it just helps WOT power. Their a GP at a non LS1tech sponsor for all required hardware (gasket, springs, pushrods etc) and cam for $429. Scoggin Dickey Parts has the a LS6 cam package with whats listed previously and Titanium retainers for $575.

A Z06 cam may be good for NO2 set up cause it has more exhaust timing, probley best off with ASM long tubes too.

It would be a decent FI cam. The specs are like 207/216 or something from what I remember. BUT, like I keep saying, that cam is made for a 3100lbs 2 door rocket...not a 4500lbs+ truck. Besides why spin a 5.3 to 6400rpm?

You will need: rods, springs, retainers, blah-blah-blah.

I think it would be smarter to get a custom grind by Crane or Comp for a truck. Tell them what you have planned and they will make it. A nice split duration like a 214/220 ~.525" 114lsa would kickass for a truck. Good full range power, more exhaust for N2O or FI, nice idle, etc. A TRUCK CAM, NOT A CAR CAM.

Good luck!

I understand what you are saying, but with the 6.0 and 10:1 compression being routed through a 3000 stall, im not very worried about not having power, especially when i do get the procharger.

Also you dont have to rev up the LS6 motor to get some serious torque out of it. I realize that this is in a car that weighs a good amount less, but i think it wouldnt hurt me that much.

I was thinking that the SS cam (higher output 6.0) had a little better cam grind to it from the factory, which is part of where the extra 45 hp came from. Am I right or wrong here?

i don't know **** about cams but i do have a question here, forget about what car the factory puts the z06 cam in or how much it weighs just look at the specs. wouldn't more duration and less LSA both work toward less LOW end than that z06 cam, i keep hearing people say not to use the zo6 cam because it would loose to much torque and then recomend a cam that is even larger. like i said i don't know anything about cams, could someone explaine this to me. i can see the arguement that you might be able to do better we a comp xe grind.
