Default NEED INFO ON WIDEBAND O2's

Hey guys, i am getting a set of dynatech long tubes and have been told that i might want to look into wideband O2's. If someone could explain what these do and if i do need them and how much the cost where i can get them, and all that stuff, it would help out a lot. And also, do i need the wideband module and since i will still have 4 O2's do i need 4 widebands? Please help me with this info, thanks.

Personally, not so sure that at your mod level you need them with what they cost. If you are wanting to monitor your Air-to-fuel ratio, then there is no better way to do it than with a wideband vs tapping into your stock O2 wiring harness.

You will still need your stock O2 sensors, which are narrow band sensors (4 of them). They would not be replaced by any wideband sensor. Unless there is one out there integrates into your stock O2 wiring harness that I am not aware of. Don't believe there is one.

There are a couple of ways to go. You could keep all 4 of your stock O2s and get a O2 bung cut into your pipes for the wideband sensor/s. Or,...you can do like many do and shut down your rear O2s and use one of those bungs. A wideband sensor looks just like a normal O2 sensor for the most part.

Go to the Innovate Motorsports website to read up on the different options. You will need a way to display the data. You can find on there the optimum locations also.

I agree, no need for widebands unless you go forced induction or big nitrous.
Another reason you might consider a WB is if you want to run E85 or other alternative fuel. The WB and HPTuners will let you adjust the injectors to compensate for the fuel change.

I mean this in a very nice, positive manner... If you don't know what widebands are and what they "do", then its highly obvious that you are unfortunately much too 'new' to the tuning scene to warrant their purchase. Take your truck to a professional shop and let them tune it for ya w/ their own lambda sensors.

thanks for that, but that's the reason for all of these forums is to learn and understand and to work on your truck yourself and have knowledge. It's really easy to just give your truck to someone and say, "here, tune my ****, i have no ambition to learn". I am new at tuning, but i have people that have been helping me out, and i am doing really well, and i do understand what they are, just wanted MORE info on them, if that's alright to ask on here, i mean, that's what this site if for DICK.

If I were you and wanted a wideband I would get a Innovative LC-1. This is a wideband setup without the hand held part/unit/box. Everyhting else is the same. Why do you not need the "box"? Becuase you have HPTuners and it can be run/displayed through HPTuners. Even if you didnt have HPTuners it would still work becuase they include software to disply everything but since you ahve HPTuners you really dont need to worry about that. Now if you were going to tune a bunch of different brand and model cars then Id say get the LM-1 version that has the hand held unit. I just ordered and received the LC-1 setup the other day from www.dynotune.org . The only thing different I got from the normal LC-1 setup is a gauge(displays actual ration and not in millivolts) made by Dynotune. They offer a few different wideband/gauge packages as well as just the widebands and accessories. I already have a dual gauge pod with a n20 pressure gauge and a narrowband A/F ratio gauge(diplays in millivolts) so I will replace the narrowband A/F gauge with the wideband one and have real-time readings even if I dont have the laptop with me. IMO regardless of the mods you have its still important to have A/F ratio reading capabilities. In your case with your current setup you just have to ask yourself if you can justify it. If you have bigger plans for your truck like cam,motor,n20,sc, or tc then that definetly justifies it. Good Luck!

how much was it? did it come with standalone software or did it have to piggyback of hptuners?

OK first of all to use HPTuners with a wideband setup you have to have the MPVI PRO datalogging setup. What does the MPVI Pro interface allow me to do?
With our Pro interface, you can use 0-5v signals from various sensors such as EGT, Wide Band, fuel pressure and others for sensor input in our scanner. You will have real time data from those sensors right next to your standard scan tool data such as TPS, RPM, MPH, etc.

Our MPVI Pro interface also has black box data logging built in. What this means is you are able to scan your vehicle without the use of a laptop using the interfaces record button. You can then take the interface into your home to transfer the log contents from the interface to the computer. If you have an MPVI Pro it will require no hardware modification. Also note that VCM Scanner comes with both interfaces regardless as it is part of our VCM Suite package.

You dont have to have HPTuners to get Data from the wideband it just makes tuning alot easier and saves you from having to switch from screen to screen when driving. If you get the gauge though you techniclly dont have to even look at your laptop to get readings. Bascilly since you are going to be tuning the easiest way out is to use HPTuners. The external gauge is just a soehting extra.

I know dynotune is a advertiser at LS1tech so I hope this is cool!
Here is the version with the control box---

Here is the version without the control box and gauge I got. There are other kits with different gauges though like square ones or Autometer ones---

If you have any technical question call or email Dynotune those guys are great.
