Default Need info on gears quick

I just found some 3.73 gears (Richmond 10 bolt 8.5 inch $90)for my truck on ebay and was just curious when you have gears installed do you need to re-program anything in the computer. I know I'll have to go back and reset my HPP3 for the 3.73's but if I were to take the HPP3 tuning off for any reason and drive around would it screw up my computer/ or not shift the tranny right? Also just daily driving can you notice a slight increase in acceleration?sorry for my ignorance but gears aren't my specialty.

3:42 to a 3:73 will be a nice change......you will need to reprogram for the gears if you want your speedo to be perfect.

So you mean my spedo would only be off a little, by how much you think? just wondering. Also how much of a reduction in E.T. do you think it would be. Is $90 a good price for the gears? BTW thanks for all the info.

Your speedometer will read approx. 6 mph too high at 60. I would never buy a used ring&pinion. Not that much more for a new one. Install is too hard and expensive to chance a used one.

I've already found some different ones. How much for the install, and how much does an install kit run? If I have the HPP3 programmed for the 3.73's would my spedo be off, I wouldn't think so?

if you are programmed for 3:73's then your speedo will be fine. Install kits are around 100 bucks, 300 for everthing including labor.

Maybe you will find this useful:

I would save a little more for new gears too. If they are new ... then jump on them before someone else does.
