I agree some have had idle and vacuum leak issues after installing the FAST intake, but do think for those with the fundage, if installed/tuned correctly, the FAST intake would make more power than the truck or LS6 intake.

I had about a 30min conversation with Brian Tooley of TEA some months back about options for my current setup and mentioned I was thinking about going with the LS6 intake and he said in his opinion a FAST90/90 (or GM 90) would be the better option, again if the dollars were there.

Car Craft had LPE dyno some header/cam/heads/Fast Intake combos on a SSR 5.3 for the October and November 2004 editions. Pretty interesting results, especially in comparing test 4 to test 5 where torque was only -1 at 2K rpm, almost dead even until 5K rpm where it and HP starts to take off. Would have liked to see some tests using a more typical "truck sized" cam, such as the venerable 220/220 .551

For the original poster...hell yeah it would be worth it!

Test 1 - Baseline aluminum block 5.3L with stock exhaust manifolds and a typical dual exhaust system.

Test 2 - Addition of 1.75" headers and same dual exhaust.

Test 3 - Added the LPE GT2-3 (206/221 @.050 .571/.578 118.5LSA) cam and Comp 918's.

Test 4 - Swapped in the LPE GT1-1 (229/242 @.050 .631/.631 114.5LSA). IDC was at 100%, so injectors were swapped to 30#'ers.

Test 5 - Installed LPE CNC heads milled to 57cc with 2.00 intake and stock exhaust valves.

Test 6 - Installed FAST intake with stock TB, and car front accessory drive.

If the funds are available, get a Tony Mamo ported FAST 90. You'll get a huge gain, I know I did.

Obviously on a 408 or a boosted motor even a small increase in flow could create quite a bit more power.
Dont worry, I dont argue on the internet, all my testing was on a stock cube LS1. The gains depended on the rest of the combination, but 20hp was fairly typical for anything from "bolt ons" engine combos.

O2 Reaper went from a LS6 Intake to a FAST 90 and he said he could tell a pretty good difference up top.....

I've got a FAST 90/90 set-up sitting in my kitchen waiting to go on my LQ9 Head / Cammed Procharged motor. I was told to go with a FAST 90 over the LS6, and go with a Ported 90 if I wanted huge gains.

TSP had a really good special on a FAST 90 / PP 90 TB.... when i bought my set-up

So, I guess with all of this being said, some of us guys are leaving some on the table such as me or Bluecajun???? If I will gain this much hp on the big end then I'll probably ponder on this mod. I wonder what the bottom end loss would be on my truck as it sits. To the thread starter, yes, do the mod. LS6 or fast. You will make good HP on the big end with either one. JMO.

Search over on tech for Tony Mamo ported FAST intakes. From everyones experience with them, there is no bottom end power loss! There is actually gains across the entire rpm range!

Thanks!!!!!!! I'll do that. If it's 17-25hp then it's worth it for me.
