Need info on Duramax!!!

Re: Need info on Duramax!!!
I wasn't talking about running straight propane, I was talking about a shot, like nitrous. I have heard of alternative fuel versions of gas engines if that is what you meant. And I know that guy I forgot his screen name with the big shot of nitrous. But with the turbo, you can increase boost output through a plug in computer chip and add something like 150 hp and 250 tq for 700 dollars.

Yes, Cash, I was referring to the whole alternative fuel things which is an option on from GM but only on the gas engines, sorry for the confusion.
And sleeper no offense taken, but I do have experience with these trucks, do you? How many D-Max's have you actually worked on? I worked on two this week alone. A 3500 Silverado and a Top Kick (4500).

Sorry for misunderstanding. I will admit I don't know **** about turbo diesels except don't laugh when one wants to race you. I think the emissions laws are why the chip adds so much ridiculous amount of power. This guy ran a low 14 with chip, filter, and muffler https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...;f=18;t=001984 If he put a bigger diameter full exhaust and a propane he would probably be in 13s.

Re: Need info on Duramax!!!
not trying to start a **** talking war but what happend to the rest of this post where it talked about just running propane in a diesel? so i figured if you had "experience" you would know you inject propane like nos and gain hp for a diesel.

Re: Need info on Duramax!!!
Right, we had propane running forklifts (instead of gas, diesel or electric). They ran exceptionally hot and I'm not referring to coolant temps (those were normal). When running N20 with gas, does it not help effectively cool the intake charge? Those lifts we had running straight propane did not seem that way. Which is what I meant by running hotter. However, never having worked on a CNG prepped engine (gas or diesel) I cannot confirm what that this was the case.
I have worked on straight diesels though (as much as I try to avoid them), and I gotta admit, GM's new modular setup on the 4500's is pretty trick. The D-Max I had to work on had a bad ignition feed and instead of having to go multiple places and dig for all the electronic controllers, they mount all of them in one place on a swing away unit with enough slack in the harness on the passenger side firewall. Real easy serviceability!
Now if they could only do all this modularlation (if that's a word) on our pickups, I'd be as happy as a nun in a cucumber patch.

Thanks guys! your help has been great. We are looking for a truck that will pull our 24' enclosed race car trailer without getting 5 miles a gallon. The trailer is going to get pulled twice a week next summer, if not more. That i why i am considering a diesel. Again, thanks for all your help, and keep it coming.
