i could be wrong about this but i think those are two different things. torsion bars are for 4x4's meaning it jacks up the front end or lowers it. the higher the setting will lift the front end but also give a rougher ride. the ladder bars are another name for traction bars. hopefully someone else can confirm this. what are you going for?

yes, ladder bars are for traction...mostly on race cars.... similar to traction bars, but also different!!
here's a definition:
Torsion Bars
Torsion bar suspension uses the flexibility of a steel bar or tube, twisting lengthwise to provide spring action. Instead of the flexing action of a leaf spring, or the compressing-and-extending action of a coil spring, the torsion bar twists to exert resistance against up-and-down movement. Two rods of spring steel are used in this type of suspension. One end of the bar is fixed solidly to a part of the frame behind the wheel; the other is attached to the lower control arm. As the arm rises and falls with wheel movement, the bar twists and absorbs more of the road shocks before they can reach the body of the car. The bar untwists when the pressure is released, just like a spring rebounding after being compressed. Adjusting the torsion bars controls the height of the front end of the vehicle. The adjusting bolts are located at the torsion bar anchors in the front crossmember. The inner ends of the lower control arms are bolted to the crossmember and pivot through a bushing.

caltrac is supposed to have a good set of traction bars for our truck. they cost around $320. i've only heard of a couple people that have them, maybe they could give you more information about them? hope that helps...

well i didn't see the traction bars on their web site either, but i went ahead and email them asking if they had a set for the 99-02 silverados, also asked if i had to do anything special because i have the hothckis 2/4 drop and they said:
Yes we have a set of bars to fit your application. However we would
need to modify your front spring hanger in order for our system to bolt
in properly. You can also order new hangers that are already modified
for $105 for the pair. Our bars would eliminate wheel hop and spring
wrap up. The price of the bars is $319 plus shipping. If you have any
further questions please call (661)948-1490
Yes, we have to modify your front hanger do to the drop. We have to
remove 2" of material out of the hanger then reinforce it on the top side
of it. If it had the stock hanger there would be no problems. Thanks

you just have to modify your front leaf spring hanger because of the 4" drop. i will probably do the traction bars at the end of summer. i used to have really bad wheel hop but now i don't. going to wait and see what happens when i get the flex-a-lite fan here in a week or two.
