It is time to change the air filter.
I thought I would do a little upgrade.
What is the best performace gain? Airaid, FIPK?
Replacement lid w/ drop in filter?
Please post your experience.

I like the UPD setup over the open element setups.I'm running the UPD lid on my superchager setup with a 4" hole in the base plate and piping to a air scoop under the bumper.

What is everyones air intake temps? I have an open element K&N FIPK and it seems the air temp is always 4-5 degrees above what it is outside. Like today it is about 93 outside. My intake temps were bewtween 97-100.

The airraid gets VERY dirty VERY quickly. I mean EXTREMELY Dirty.
The filter in my UPD is relatively clean for the number of miles on it.
The airraid sounds like a big vacuum under the hood when you nail it.
1BADHD - I'll check my temps with the UPD tomorrow and report back. I'd expect all the setups would be fairly close to each other but, who knows.

The only thing I think would help it over the open element designs is that hot air from the engine bay can't just fly right in through any cracks. I'd imagine it's within a degree or two of ambient but, I'll check for sure tomorrow and report back.

Well, went out testing tonight since it was a little cooler.
Ambient - 75°
IAT @ idle - 84°-86°
IAT @ cruise - 80°-82°
IAT @ WOT - 80° falling to 78° by second gear.
I didn't make any pulls into third gear because I passed TWO cops within 15 minutes heading in the opposite direction.
I don't need any speeding tickets right now for testing out an intake.
I'll test it again tomorrow afternoon on my way home from work when the temps should be in the mid 90° range.
John
BTW - This was with a smoked UPD. I wonder if covering it in reflective material would keep more heat out?? Hmmm....new test.

I cut a 4" hole in the lower airbox, cut a 4"hole in the metal base plate, fitted a 4"meter socket hub to the base plate, threaded in a 4"PVC MIPT adaptor, fitted 2-4"PVC 45s and a 4"90 to a scoop in the opening for the tow hook with a Fernco cplg.
