GM has a specific tool to do it. But essentially as above you use an all thread bolt with a washer and a nut and make sure the pulley is going on straight. Whatever you use don't use the old bolt or a longer bolt to put it on. This can damaged the crank threads and then you've got bigger problems. I've read of some people baking the pulley in the oven and then it will hammer easily onto the crank

You need to heat it if you aren't using an installation tool. 250F for 15 minutes.

 

Its as simple as that? Pop it into the oven like baking a cake and it slids right on?

 

If you don't burn yourself. Find something that fits inside it that won't cause damage to bang on. Oil the inside up and use a scrap aluminum piece the instructions for this other one recommends. Install and tighten the old bolt to 240 ft lbs, make sure its seated, remove and discard old bolt, install new bolt 12557840 with loctite, tighten to 37 ft lb, then another 140 degrees.

 

yes, . . bake it at 250 for 15min . . . use oven mits to handle it! - NOT GLOVES

clean off the shaft, and use a small ammount of grease. use a 1/4 or a 2/4 and a hammer. "beat it" on until you get 2-3 threads or 1 complete turn of theads, and then suck it down with the stock crank bolt.

Torque it to 150lbs . . . start your truck up, get the engine to to temp, and then the new bolt to 180-200 . . .and check it again later after it's been up to temp.
