do you plan on getting a stall? do you tow? can you tune or get it tuned? do youwant to change valve springs? answers these and that will help. also are you looking for low to mid range power or peak power.

ok, with a 4.8 I would get a yank TT3000 or a vigilante 3200 and get(suggestion) a 212/218 high lift with 918 springs. Now no matter what cam your going to get you will need those 918 springs. Really on cam selection you can probably be ok with any thing under a 224/224 which is pretty radical in a 4.8. that is as high as duration as someone has gone in the 4.8. tuning can either be done lcoally if you have someone or through allen nelson who can get you a mail order tune. persoanlly in a 4.8 I would probably opt for a tr220/220 on 112 lsa. also you will want to get a transmission cooler and trans go shift kit. It funny how you plan on one thing but you spend all the $$ just to make it work right and incorporate it runs correct. good luck I am sure you will get alot of different answers here.

if you go that route a ls6 cam would be pretty good but it willbe pretty weak down low. really it wont kick in until 4500rpm+. trrust me if you pick that as your first cam you will want to swap them out and it's jsut not worth the time. these trucks really need a tune. I would suggest to get a tune first off since after you make the initial $$ all you have to do is paying shipping to get a new one. the tune will really wake the truck up. My plans are to get a shift kit and tune first and then probably a nice cam like TR224/224 on 112 lsa and a stall. Or maybe some nitrous.

Looking stricktly at the numbers, it appears that the stock 4.8 cam is pretty short. Even an LS1 cam has improved numbers. Probably lots of stock LS1 and LS6 cams out there in peoples' garages that you could get for cheap, and yield some positive performance gains. Perhaps not worth the trouble; I don't know. One thing however, is that it won't require regular valve spring replacement. If you're not racing, it might be an option worth considering. FWIW.

ok, if your going to spend the money on a programmer get ls1 edit or hp tuners don't waste your money on hypertech or diablo or micro tuners. I think learning edit and hp tuners takes a little time and you have to mess with it alot. I am persoanlly getting a tune from allen nelson. Remember that the biggest problems with our trucks is TORQUE MANAGMENT. it pulls timing off the start and shifts so you don't hurt the weak *** tranny. put a shift kit, with OD billet servo get a tune tell allen to get rid of alot of TM and it will run a ton better.
