Start with a custom PCM tune, we have some sponsors that can help you out with that (BlackBear Performance, Wheatley, Nelson), then your basic bolt on's (CAI, cat back exhaust, long tube headers and y-pipe), set up the drivetrain to help handle the new found power (Detroit trutrac or Eaton Posi in the rear, Transgo HD2 shift kit in the trans, upgraded servos, torque converter matched to the cam and head combo, and a big trans cooler such as the TruCool 40k), and lastly, a nice healthy cam and some quality heads if you've got the scratch.

I only recommend a tune from one of the sponsor's if you can have it done in person. I'm not knocking the tuners themselves, I'm knocking the mail order business...it's a real pain in the ***. Having the software yourself is priceless because you know what's going on with your truck at all times and can make changes at that very moment. Also, it will give you the tuning power you need if you really get deep into modding (we ALL say we are just going to do little mod X,Y, or Z and the next thing you know your swapping engines, rear ends, etc).

But be prepared for a massive learning curve and a lot of trial and error. Just having the software doesn't mean that you're going to gain torque and horsepower instantly. As a matter of fact, if done incorrectly, catastrophic failure may be the case. If you want instant results, I'd recommend consulting the pros who sponsor this site. I believe that Justin at BlackBear Performance will throw in a tune for you if you purchase EFILive from him.

I think that a lot of guys buy their parts from oregonperformance dot com, I believe that they have an ebay store. If you're looking for a complete trans, you can't go wrong with FLT or Performabuilt, I'm saving for an FLT Maximum Performance Level7 myself
