how big exactly are the tires and what gear?
i would have the say the 212/218 also. depending on if the tires are small, there is also the 216/220.

The tires are 32.4", I think, they are 285/65-18s. The gears in it now are 3:73but I have been debating on switching to 4:30s because I dont plan on going to anything bigger than a 33" tire.
What gains can I expect to see from that cam, HP and track times, if anyone knows?

You need to decide first if youre going to do gears and what ratio before anyone can give you an accurate cam recommendation. That is a pretty meaty tire to sling with a 5.3.

Well I guess I'll stay with the 3:73s for a long time. When I do gears, maybe a year down the road idk, I will go with 4:30s.

For the price youll have into gears front and rear, nitrous kit and a cam you could throw a used radix on there and be every bit as fast and a much simpler install.

If youre set on a cam and nitrous then I stick by a 212/218. Youre not going to have much lope but should be a solid 25-30hp gain at the tires with tuning. The problem with a 5.3 in a heavy with big tires is it just doesnt make low end tq to begin with and the more duration you go with the more it just exacerbates this problem.

Yeah im starting to realize that..
Thats probably why I wont be doing gears for awhile. Nitrous and a cam swap can be done fairly cheap though, right? I see nitrous kits for around 3-400$ and a cam swap with labor and parts will run what, around 800-1000$?
If all I can gain with that cam is 30hp to the wheels that hardly seems worth the money. I know the real advantage to a cam swap is the whole power curve and not just the peak, but it just sounds so dissapointing gaining 30hp from it

Depends on if youre going with new or used parts and what parts exactly. There is a 100$ difference just in the different kind of springs you can go with. Then used or new the sky is the limit on the difference. Install depends on whether you get a shop to do it or someone that does them on the side. I charge 1000 parts included for a cam swap, but a shop is going to be more like 14-1600.

Nitrous is another thing, new or used? Either way for 400 bucks youre only going to get a very basic kit. Do you want a fuel pressure safety swtich, bottle heater, blow down tube if you mount it inside, auto bottle heater, bottle opener, window switch, or a progressive controller. To do a nitrous system right it costs a good chunk of change.

Thats why I say for what youre doing Id go with a blower and be done with it. Now if you had a 6.0 in there Id say a 220ish cam that would be a fun cam. Im running a gt2-3 cam in my LQ4 and there is torque all over the place even with a tiny 2200 converter. Ive also got a radix to put on too because I want diesel like low end tq and Ill be running some tires like yours eventually.

A cheapo wet nitrous kit rigged off a push button with a 150 shot would be fun but definitely not a good idea til you get the built trans in. Also to keep the G80 alive only play with it in a straight line, different wheel speed kills a G80 quicker than anything.

I an get ls6 springs with this small of a cam right?
As far as the nitrous I wouldn't mind going used. I think random hero had a complete setup for $600, a little more than the 400 but not bad. The trans will be done within the month. Then I will probably go to a custom drive shaft because mine has a groove cut in it from when my last exhuast setup came loose. After that I'll probably add the nitrous and start doing a lot more research on a cam swap. I would love to put a radix on there also, but I think I could see better mpg if I didn't, maybe even with the cam. And with the n2o it should be about as quick. I would love to add a turbo actually, but that would probably be out of my budget.
