tranny mods include shift kit, servo, hardened replacement parts for weaker parts that usually break or you can do a 4L65E or 4L80E swap or a pre-beefed up tranny from a performance transmission manufacturer. as for n/a vs fi...depends on how far you go with em...but if you plan on modding the 4.8L then tranny shouldnt be too big of an issue either way 6.0L is a different story

trans will be a problem regardless of what motor you have.
unless you are one of the lucky ones that can spray the hell out of it for 90,000 miles and nothing happen.. till then..
as for my 4.8L, it's been thru a few ...

From what I have heard, it doesnt take much to fry a stock 60e but a lot comes into play. The weight of your truck, HP/TQ, heat and your driving habbits. I bought my truck used with 55,000 miles on it a year and half ago and have beat the **** outta it from day one and it now has 70,000 on it. The last 15,000 miles I have been spraying a 100 shot and I have went through around 20 bottles of nitrous and I spray through the shifts sometimes. I estimate that with the nitrous and my mods I should be peaking out around 340 RWHP. My tranny seems to still be working ok, however I have noticed that it is getting sloppier and the shifts are starting to lose firmness. I will be having one built locally in about a month with a shift kit, corvette servo, 3200 stall (not good for tranny because it creates more heat), a cooler, and hardened parts but who knows how long it will last with the build up.

Nope can't take them off (and pass)

As far as horror stories, I bought my STS, and have broke almost everything. , But I was prepared for it so it didn't come as too big of a suprize when things went south.

You can pretty much count on building your 4l60e trans. How long the rear-end lasts is derectly related to how you drive your truck and the miles that are on it. IMHO. My rear-end was the first thing to go, but it had been beat for over 88,000 miles, Parish and his monster is still with his G80 (I think) and he is over 700hp. the G80 rear-end is kinda like a time bomb, you never know when it's going to blow.
