Default My volts gauge is reading low

The last few days My volt gauge is around 11-12 volts. Today I put on a new alt. It is a little better but it is still only reading like 12-13 volts. Do the ac batteries suck. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Let me know what you guys think I should do. Thanks , Jared
