My 2001 5.3 (3.42) EC Sierra is SLOW! My main problems: hard to do burnouts, will not break the tires loose, and it takes too long to downshift and go anywhere. I have to keep it running 87 octane and I have to keep it quiet. Those are my only two major things. I don't want to remove any weight either. What are some things I can do to help? I was thinking custom tune, intake, and true duals with some quiet mufflers. What do you guys think? Also, are the stock cats any good? Does changing the plugs/wires help any on the trucks? I don't wanna worry about electric fans or pulleys either. Just easy bolt on stuff or exhaust. No headers. TIA

Plugs/wires help. Also cold air intake, new exhaust setup, HPP3. That's about it if you don't want to do pullies, gears, or electric fan.
Headers would be a BIG plus.

I know how ya feel. i run wide 295/50 r16 and use to be able to go about 25 and hammer on it and break the tires loose. no it wont hardly break the tire loose from a stand still. i have 70k on my truck and havent tuned it up but i wouldnt think that plugs would make that much of a difference. would it. it feels like lose of <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> compression.

Brake-stands will always be hard to do because of the ABS. Point it up a hill a letr rip. With good gas, K&N, 3"mufler mine would smoke through 1st and into 2nd on stock tires.

sounds to me like you should leave hot rodding to your ws6, you have eliminated nearly all of the mods that are avaliable for your truck. i would bet money pullys will give you more that wires and plugs and probably cost less too.
all the stuff that works on the cars works on the trucks and just like the car mods most of them are expensive or effect driveability or increase operating expences

this exaust/intake 4.8L 3.42gears truck has no problem spinning his one wheel. i can tear my stock tires to pieces if i just punch it or i powerbreak it. i could do it stock too. i was getting enough spin that i had to put on traction bars. i need tires.
and the long downshifts is something you'll have to live with. like was said before pretty much all the basic mods for the trucks you have ruled out.
yur truck is naturally gunna feel slow after driving a stock ws6, much less a modded one.
