My findings on my LQ9 cam swap into a 5.3
#1
so correct me if im wrong but swapping from a cam with specs of 191/190 .457/.466 114lsa to a cam with specs of 196/207 .467/.479 116lsa (<<whats highlited below if you cant read it) wont require a tune. The cam shown on comps website on the right is a little more aggressive than the stock LQ9 cam and i talked to a few people as well as an engine builder in my area and they say the small bump in lift and duration will be sorted out by the stock tune and the truck will run fine. What do you guys think?
By the way i know this swap wont gain me much power, im doing it to get my truck on the road instead of sitting in my garage because the stock lifters failed and ate the cam a little bit. so, dont tell me i wont see gains, i already know that.

Surprised you haven't just done this already. Must like looking at your truck on jackstands, lol.
You asked and were told by someone who did it, it may stall with A/C on and low rpm idle........ Is that for sure for your truck, no. It's such a small change it probably won't do much of anything and that Comp is actually quite a bit larger in the grand scheme of things than the Lq4/lq9 camshaft.
And really what is the worst thing that happens.. you have to spend $200 to tune it.
Just swap it in. The worst that happens is down the road you have spend some

I did it, had problems with idle and stalling, rpms dropped enough that ac would only work while driving. It will annoy the snot out of you....I'm sure a stock 5.3 cam is easy to find for free. I've got at least 6 of them in the scrap pile.

its only for a month or maybe two, ill have my new truck in a week or two, well new to me but yeah. im just doing it to give my dad his car back and im not going to be running AC as im in MN and it hits a max of 70 at this time of year. Ill put up with the idle and what not for a short time til i get my winter beater. Im going to swap the cam later this winter for a 220R and all the other goodies like an intake, full exhaust, 3200 stall, hardened pushrods, fresh lifters again, etc. I just wanna get it driveable again.

Well considering I swapped a Comp 224 on a 112 lsa into a hypercrap tuned stock pcm, stock converter 6.0, drove it that way for months with only some idle issues( had to 2 foot it a bit) I would say stuff that bitch in there and roll. People at the time were telling me no way, but it turned out YES way.
