Default Are my Cats clogged?

Ok so ripping out my Y-pipe today so i can install my ASM's. And just now i am discovering how badly my manifolds we're leaking. Like cracks, and even missing 2 bolt heads on the driver bank. So straight to the point, after probably 3000 to 5000 miles of really rich mixtures, are my cats dead.

I have them out right now, and i can see the honeycomb structure just fine, but zero light shines through when i stick a flashlight on the rear o2 bung. But i dont know whether this is normal or not?

So do i need to go and buy new cats are what lol. (meow)

Bah i was afraid of that... And once i got the 2nd cat off later, (which is a completly straight pipe) i could barely see the sun when it was shining directly through the cat

Oh well looks like tomorrow i'll be trying to hunt down new cat sections, for lack of a better term, Y-Pipe, even though the 6.0L exhaust doesnt have one.

Not sure about local laws, but could try O2 sims for ~100.00 beans and a straight y-pipe. If they do not work for you, you can always sell them and then buy the catalytic converters and plug in the original O2 sensors. You can go as far as flanging the Y-Pipe for the cats. But with more joints, there are more chances for leaks.

Actually, I see that you have HPTuners listed in mods. You can probably just tuned them out and save the 100 bucks.

Well, i just did the "hose" test and well the cats seem to flow pretty good. The pipe never filled up with water at all so atleast i can just re-use them and think about replacing them later. When my bank account can afford it.

Oh well i say that now, but then come summertime i'll be spending my money for a G6 rather than fueling my truck.

You can always gut them, and leave them on for a visual inspection, depending on your inspection laws.

You would see light through them that way, because the light is coming in on an angle. If you shine the light straight through (which you can't do with out cutting the pipe) its still hard to see much light.

Run a pipe through them and be done with it.

Bah its all welded up and running good now. Just need to go through a few heat cycles and retorque everything.

I thought about gutting them, but to be honest i really like how quiet the exhaust is now with the ASM + Corsa combo. And without the cats' i'd be afraid as i'm in love with the silent crusing that i never had with all the leaks my old manifolds had.
