Here's a few straight-through designs:

Dynomax Bullet - somewhere around $50
Corsa - sold as a catback around $650
Borla XR-1 - muffler for around $165
Hooker Aerochamber (not too loud) - muffler for around $70

I've heard that Corsa is tuned to the truck so I you can't just buy the muffler. In my opinion no muffler is cool if your 16 and driving around the HS parking lot, otherwise you just sound loud and look slow. I have a flowmaster 40 series and still have drone. I would go with a Borla because it has a good sound, I had an XR-1 muffler for about a week but I took it off because it was not loud enough at the time.

I disagree. I've heard TooTall's Borla XR1 many times and it was plenty loud! I could hear him coming a block away and it shook the windows whenever he would drive up to the house!

No muffler is going to be seriously obnoxious. I had short bodied Dynomax true duals on my 5.3 2005 and at 75 and 80 mph got really old. I had echo tubes on there and I took them off and ran just pipes out the back, and it still droned but not as badly.

I would keep your cats, as they don't restict that much on these engines if at all. and put a nice magna flow or something like that on there. I like the Dyno Max Super Turbo, because it doesn't have any baffles in it, just a sig zag design and a nice deep rumble, but have to say that their build quality has deminished in the past few years. I have had 5 sets on 5 different trucks, and on the last chevy I had they crapped out at 75K.

You want loud? Cut off your cats and run dual 1-chamber Flowmasters! I have a friend w/ an SS Silverado that has dual 1-chamber Flows that are loud and he still has cats.

No muffler is out, it is a little to loud for me. I did a little more research and you guys were right. To much like a "high school " thing.
