Muffler, or no Muffler?

So I decided that I finally want to make the truck louder. I am debatable though. I have always thought the sound of no muffler and just straight pipes sounded awesome but I want to know everybody's opinion.
Should I go with the pipes, or put a muffler on there as well?
If I go with just straight pipes they will start after the cats and just go back. The truck is an 06 Silverado with the 5.3 in it. No other modifications. The guy that I talked to explained that the sound I would get from just the pipes would be similar to that of my old Camaro. I had longtubes and a loudmouth on there. The only thing I am worried about though is when you cruise at 70-80 mph on the highway, if it will be to obnoxious. Any thoughts are appreciated, talk to you guys soon...
If I go with the muffler, where should I get it or should I go with the whole exhaust set-up? What would be a good choice? Borla, Corsa, Flowmaster?
Help me out here guys.........................

Here is a good setup that sounds Bad A. Pacesetter LT's, ORY, Single dynomax bullet muffler. If you like straight pipes you will like this a lot as well. Just get the pipes extended out back near the bumper to rid the highway drone.

I had that setup on my old '92 Chevy truck it was fine for about a week. Than the drone got to me. I decided to cut the cats off and added a 50 series Flowmaster and it sounded great. It is better to have a muffler and not the cats than the other way around, because you will get no backpressure.

when i bought my truck it had a ypipe, aslo had the stock ypipe w/cats in front, where the muffler is and duals out the back, no mufflers. i havent changed it yet but i want to. it is too loud for me for a DD. however i have no drone whatsoever anywhere at any rpm. Id say to get a muffler, a straight throught design(if you can look through the end of the muffler and see out the other end, its good) magnaflow, borla, and corsa are good

I ran my truck for about a year with out a muffler just added a piece of pipe at the flange after the cats. After all my friends ragged on me I added the Bullett and it sounds a whole lot better. I would also say go with some sort of muffler.

Cut the y-pipe off after the cats and put in a 2.5" x-pipe; then run straight pipes the rest of the way back, preferably to behind the tires. It will be loud and sound pretty cool when they start cackling around 3000 rpm. It might get annoying around 75-80 on long trips though. I can't remember how bad my straights were at that speed, but they did sound good.

youre not making enough power to run true duals. no muffler is pure hillbilly and just pure untasteful. its not good for performance, its not good for sound and yes its loud but its horrible
now you can look into a bullet muffler if you would like an muffler that flows with the least amount of restrictions. Magnaflow, dynomax, flowmaster all are ones thta offer bullet style mufflers
