MS3 too big...?

Caltracs, smart choice.
Why do you want that cam? Did you close your eyes and point? Did you honestly think because some other guy runs 10s with it you will?
They arent saying this cam is the best choice, they are saying itll work. Theres a difference. I dont argue that the truck will run with it, but will it be the best choice? not even close for what you have right now. Cam choice is as critical as it gets, screw it up and you have a turd for an engine. It wont want to idle, itll stall, get bad gas mileage, make lots less TQ.
You also have to realize most peope subscribe to the "American Way" of thinking which is "Bigger must be better". And with camshaft you surely want to error on the smaller side when deciding, not the other way.
Its your truck and you can do what you want, Im just telling you you dont need a cam that big. Its pointless at this time, later you may work your way up to that cam, sure.
Think of it like this, CompCams doesnt even have a cam that big that they stock . And your trying to put it in a stock engine!!!! Dont you think they make cams for stock engines too? Listen to what they say about their biggest cam they stock thats still smaller than what your putting into your stock engine...
"Designed for large cubic inch LS1/LS6, RACE ONLY Applications" and a 6L isnt a large ci LS1. Also when they say large ci LS1, they mean something that has all the other performance parts too like higher compression or boost, good heads, real pushrods, good intake/TB, etc.... Not your 9.5:1 stock 6L
Guess what my next project is? My red ZQ8 is getting a Gen III too. Guess how much I research and on how to build my next engine..... All the time. I use what Ive learned through researching message boards, magazines, college, and dyno time. Where I do all the dynoing so I know nothing is scewed and I get TRUE(non messed with) information that I know is correct, becuase I was in control of everything.

hey buddy a 317 head flows the same as a 243 casting. i do admit the CR on a LQ4 is low for some huge cams. and a 6.0L is 364 and is actually larger then what most ppl use the MS3 for. i agree to large of a cam will hurt some performance and if its meant to be a DD then i wouldnt use one but for a weekend toy i surely would. as for the issues you listed that can be taken care of by a good tune. and you know that osme of those cams you spec of arent for boost. also a truck intake flows well up to about 5800rpms. i believe Parish who now is running low 10s uses his stock intake. or since the kid wanted to use a LS6 intake you owuld know there are cars with Trex's running 11s with cam only that cam with this intake. hell some are 10s with that cam. stock TB is a nice setup just needs a little porting. it seems like your claimed schooling is good for the books but in real life things do work and work out well. also with how you described your education it seems that you are actually a young dude and seems like a Technical school

I think this thread has taken a turn for the worse. Sweet, if you don't agree with some things here, do some research on here and LS1Tech, you will find a lot of the things said in here are true. If you would like to discuss some of the things, make another thread, and do so without making attacks.
I understand your reasoning for coming on very defensively, but also understand we have only had whats been portrayed to us through one side of the story. From what he says all things I've read in here are in well deserved. If that's the way it went, then so be it, if things were said diferently, then my sincere apologies.
You will find that over here, our users are fairly well educated and don't put up with a bunch of bull ****. We pride ourselves on that.
