Thanks, after 2 days stressing about the converter bolt, it was a huge relief. I had to crawl in the engine bay with the lift attached to try and get it off the tranny. After a few minutes of pulling it back and forth it came loose and coolant poured all over my shoes. The engine leveler really helped get the oil pan up and over some obsticles. I'm gonna try and pull the tranny tomorrow. Today I'm just gonna get the flywheel and oil pan/pickup tube off and get some stuff ready to put on the new motor.

Got the tranny disconnected except the the trans cable/bracket. Can just the cable be removed off the bracket or does the whole bracket have to come off. The damn star bit bolts feel like they're starting to strip a tiny bit... Also, the connections on the driver side are hard as hell to get off, I haven't got them off yet. Do you just disconnect them or is there a certain trick to it? Thanks!

Here are some pics of the carbon build-up on the 5.3. This is after 101,000 miles. Zero problems out of the motor and transmission.

I disconnected all the transmission stuff and took the trans. crossmember out. I couldn't get the bolts undone for the center support bearing. With the transmission jack I bought, raising the transmission just a little bit and pushing slowly up into the engine bay, the driveshaft came out smoothly. I held it up with a scrap piece of 2x4. Then with the jack up as far as it would go, the trans. wouldn't clear the frame by about 1-1 1/2". I put some 12x12" bricks that were about 1 1/4" thick under the jack. They did the trick and the tranny came out. It barely cleared the frame by about 1/4". I also took the passenger tire off. It would've never cleared without doing that. So the trans is finally out BTW, the converter is freaking heavy, so be prepared. I climbed in the engine bay and got mine out. That would suck doing it under the truck. I'm also gonna go ahead and get even more broke and order a Yank 2600 in the morning. Might as well do it now.

Well, didn't get too much done today because of the rain. I've got a carport with a tarp on one side to try and keep the rain out. When my friend got off work, he helped me carry my new transmission around the front to swap the core for the FLT. Right after when swapped them out, it started to blow rain under the carport. So, had to cover stuff up and really didn't get a chance to work on too much. But, the FLT trans is going in tomorrow along with the stock converter. I was gonna order the Yank 2600, but being on a time schedule, to have the converter here by friday it was gonna cost $110 in just shipping So, I'll just wait until I get my taxes back for that. Plus, I'd like to see how it does on a stock stall. Just to feel the difference.

Haven't got too much done in the last couple of days (shopping, etc.) Got the new tranny in and pretty much hooked up. Here is a few pics. With the jack all the way up, it barely cleared the frame.
