Default Most miles w/ cam?

Im looking into a small cam for my 5.3 with 78k miles on it. I want something w a little more grunt all around low and high end. Like the comp 212 218. How many miles are yall getting off of the higher lift cams and springs as opposed to stock? Im looking to have this truck for a while and i want it reliable.
Thanks,
Derek

Depends on a lot of factors. Beehive springs will allow the greatest longevity with sup .600" lift cams. An idea situation (assuming you never want to change springs) would be the use of LS6 springs with a mild cam (~.550" or less).

Depends on what you go with. I have seen guys going 50k+ on cams with no problems and still driving them every day. On springs, it just depends which ones you go with and how aggressive the cam is. I think it is a good idea to check seat pressures on springs around 15-20k miles to just see where they are at. If they are fine, throw them back on. If not, swap springs and you will be good. You can just check a couple rather than doing them all if you like. Hope that helps.

I've never seen one with that many but the 120k+ LS1s getting cams installed is becoming the norm lately. I say go for it! Just see how long it goes. If it is a well maintained motor I would bet it will be fine!
