Behold the Chevy Tahoe Police Package alternator, 160A, no core charge.

Got it from a local dealer, for the same price that a certain online discount vendor offers it for: $138.48

For those looking to power auxillary items such as electric fans ('05 upgrade fans, H/E fans, etc.), as well as minor stereo upgrades, this is a nice piece of insurance.

This is a brand-spankin' new Bosch unit, not a rebuild (like the 145A alternators you pay the same price for, with an additional $90 core ).

Thats the ticket. When I put my 145 amp in, I also considered running new battery and alternator cables to the junction box with the red cover. I didn't when I saw that they were the same part numbers for the 105 amp and 145 amp optioned trucks. You might want to consider with a 165 amp unit. I am going to up size mine after accidentally touching the wire from the alternator when the truck and e-fans were running. This cable gets damn hot.

Will this local dealer ship parts? Would this eliminate the dimming headlights when my stereo is bumpin?

Thanks for the tip....what gauge is the stock wire?

What should I get to replace it....2 gauge? 1 gauge?

A few months ago I brought a printed quote from this certain online vendor into my local dealer's parts department. They said they would match them on whatever parts I wanted, since they would rather make 10% on me (rather than their usual 100% markup) than the 0% they make when I don't come in.

Can't argue with that logic!

As far as your dimming lights, this could help, but I don't know the origin of your particular problem, if it's current draw or what... might want to wait for the audiophiles/freaks to chime in....

From this thread, 10 gauge alternator lead. Recommended 4 gauge replacement. Another went overkill with 1/0 gauge.

I have a question related to the B+ wire upgrade....not only what guage wire are most guys using to do this, but what kind of wire? I was under the impression that the factory B+ wire to the alternator also acts as a fusible link, so if the alternator overcharges, it will melt to avoid smoking the entire electrical system and possibly turning the truck into an expensive bonfire. If it is a fusible link and is replaced with a larger guage standard wire that won't "give" if the alternator overcharges....the results would not be pretty

I have 4 gauge going from the alt to the bat with a 150 amp wafer fuse inline. I have a 130 amp alt

Naked A/V - Try nad do a search on the Internet about the Big Three upgrades in regards to upgrading the power wires and ground wires on your vehicle.

4ga and the big three will do wonders.
