Default Minimum cam size requiring converter?

Is there a minimum cam size that requires a converter to get the most out if it? I have a 216/220 now and am looking to go to a 224 or 224/228. Im guessing those will need a stall on them, or am i wrong? Or does it just vary setup to setup?

It varies. Depends on what it's going in as much as the tolerance the driver has for sub par manners with a bigger cam and stock converter as well as lack of low end power. It always surprised me the advice some would give here on that topic... seems the tolerance is huge for some

I think your truck would already gain a ton with a 300 converter.

Oh ok. 300 or 3000? Might look into a 3200 stall then. I see a lot of people talking highly of circle d and believe they are a sponser of the site

He meant 3000.

I used to have the CD 3200 and it's a great converter. With the 224 or 228 cam it would work nicely.

Thought he meant 3000 lol. Ya I'm leaning towards a tsp 224/228 cam but will go smaller if it keeps me from having to put in some crazy high stall like 4K or up.

You would need a much bigger cam for a 4k stall. The CD 3200 will more then likely stall around 3500 or so. That's plenty and the fun factor will go up tremendously.

Ya I don't know much about stalls. Wanna get the right one the first time and be done with it instead of going too big or small.

The thing that will catch you off guard with the CD3200 is how "loose" it is. By that I mean it takes a little more peddle to get it up/moving. It's not awful but does take some getting used to.

But, when you stab it, hold on, it's going to stall and roll the tires.

Ya never driven a vehicle with a stall before. Other than exhaust and cold airs, my vehicles have been stock.

I ran a 3200 in my old 5.3 with a tsp 220 and it really could have used a 3600
that was with 5.38 gears and 36" tires
