Default Milled LS6 heads .040"

Just finished building a 2001 model 6.0 (9.4 compression) to go in a scsb 2wd. I milled .040" off the LS6 heads and decked the block to 0". Also used the .041" Felpro gasket. Finished up using the Comp cam 216/220 .525/532 114 installed on a 112 int. cl. I calculate the true compression to now be between 10.2-10.5 by guessing the combustion chamber now as 65-67 cc's(down from 71). Has anyone measured cc's before and after milling? I used a guestimate of .0065"/cc. Also the DCR figures to around 8.1. Desktop Dyno puts it at 400+ hp and 450+ torque at the flywheel. With a 3000 Yank, long tubes, 4.10 gearing and Diablo custom tuning this should be a decent ride!

You should be well into the 13s in the 1/4mile.Add long tube headers to your list of mods and you've got a winner. You're looking at around 330rwhp.

LS6 heads have 64cc chambers. A LS6 head on an LQ4 6 liter will give you close to 10:1 compression. Use the felpro gasket, and you'll be over 10.3:1. Mill the heads on top of that .040 and you will be very close to 11:1 compression.

BigTex...all the data I have found says the "317" LS6 alum. head as comes on 6.0's has a chanber size of 71.06. I believe the LS1 head has the 64 cc chambers.

The 317 casting is the LQ4 / LQ9 6 liter head with 71 cc chanbers. The LS6 head is casting 243 and has 64 cc chambers. The 317 head has similar shaped runners to the 243 LS6 heads, which may be why you are confused. The LS1 heads have larger chambers than the LS6 head, which accounts for the LS6 having higher compression than the LS1. LS1 heads come in castings 853 and 241. I think the LS1 head is around 68 cc.

There you go...I was confused on milling a head that starts out with a 63cc combustion chamber and ending up with more than 63cc Ya the 6.0L heads are LQ4 or LQ9

That engine should be sweet though!

BigTex...you are probably right in what you say, but everyone sure refers to the 317 head as a LS6. I guess because they are so much alike. Thanks for your input on this. Do you have any thoughts on where I might be...closer to 65cc or 67cc?

If you get the 71cc chambers down to 67cc, and use the felpro gaskets, you'll be at 10:1. If you get to 65cc, you'll have a 10.2x compresion ratio.
