Default Mid to High RPM Cam for a 5.3

That will still pass emissions

This is gonna go in a fairly light car with headers and a stock intake manifold(LS1). Power isn't a huge goal for me I would be very happy with 300rwhp but oh well if I don't get it. I have found that I am looking for about -3 to -6 degrees of over lap to have a chance at getting through emissions.

What is everyones thoughts on a 227/224 on a 115 LSA? The higher lsa gets the overlap about where I want it and the valve events don't look like they are that far off of a 224/224 on a 114 (I can post the numbers up tomorrow).

What is every ones thoughts, reverse split bad? Any ideas for me post up

1987 Rx7, the car is really stripped out and doesn't weigh much. Still not sure on what to run for an exhaust yet.

I put a 5.3/4l60e in my 87 rx7 and I used comp cams 265xe cam. I also have long tubes, ls1 intake/injectors. This will be my daily driver and I figure that cam is good to 6000rpm on a 5.7 so it should be good to about 6300 on my 5.3. Lots of people want to throw in big cams to get the hp but I just want a great daily driver. I got it fired up but still have to remove the vats and tune it. Ill post back to see if I should have gone bigger when I make some more progress.

That is not going to be very emissions friendly...

I thought it would have a decent chance, a 224/224 on a 114 LSA has -4 degrees and a 227/224 on a 115 LSA would have -4.5 degrees of over lap. And quite a few people in CA have got similar 224 cams to pass, and my emissions are not as strict as CA, I only have to pass at idle or 2500RPM, no dyno. Do the 5.3s need a bit more - overlap to pass emission do to the smaller displacement than a lager ls1 would need?
Even a 222/224 on a 112 LSA has even less negative overlap than the other 2 cams I have listed. Zippy do you have to test your truck zippy or do they just do OBDII plug in test?

If it's really light weight then cam size can surely be upped, but I'm not sure a 224 cam that aggressive is necessary to make the power you're after nor will it be easy to pass emissions. Have you looked into the CompCams 212/218 high lift? I think that's what Turbo_Z is talking about, it's definitely a good cam for the 5.3L with an operating range of 1600-6500+ easy if you have the head work to support flow up there.

i would opt for the tr224/114
it's a great all around cam and many people have no problems passing emmisions with it.

I live in Michigan, land of no testing. We have the same emissions laws as almost everyone else, just no testing to prove you meet them.
