I read an article online somewhere about a 5.3 that was bored out .125.....and it worked fine. that seems like a CRAZY overbore to me...but if it works don't bitch

I've also heard of a few 6.0's that have gone .125 over.....with a 4.125" stroker crank that's 441cid !!!

Just wondering, but is the 6.0l block bigger than the 4.8/5.3 block?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just start out with a 6.0 block? I don't think the high revver would be ideal for our trucks, but thats my .02
na I was just thinking it would be nice if you could do something with the motor . but I will probably do as others have , and swap to a 5.7, or a 6.0
havnt got there yet so havnt really put any thought to it.

I have seen a 5.3 block bored .120 over and honed to 3.905 to take 5.7 pistons ( not stock ones). And it was thicker than a 6.0 that was bored .030.
Both were sonic checked and the 5.3 was twice as thick. After being bored. But it all depends on if you get a good block. Some are good some arnt. Just get it sonic checked before boring.

Well the 6.0 has 6 bolt mains, the 4.8/5.3 has 4...but ****, I've seen 2 bolt motors hold up to well over 500rwhp.

Does the 4.8/5.3 block have sleeves like the LS1?

isn't there a site that lists the bore/stroke of all of the LS1 series motors? I'd like to look at it if anyone has it. Also, is there anyone making aftermarket pistons for the 4.8 and 5.3?

All Gen III engines are 6 bolt mains. 5.3 and 5.7 cranks are the same, except for the 5.7's being lighter due to drilling.

As for the question of would it be worth it? I don't think so unless you have something very specific you want to do with it. It will cost about the same to bore a 4.8/5.3 as it would to buya 6.0 bare block. With the 6.0, you would already be there.

Diamond and several others will custom make the pistons for you.
