Matching a LS engine to a vehicle Vin#
Hello
I have bought a 6.0 LS engine that was supposed to be taken from a 2008 GMC Savana 3500 with 66,816 miles. The engine has issues that look like it may have many more miles on it. I took notice yesterday that the seller now has another 6.0 Engine for sale using the same pictures of donor vehicle with the dash showing 66,816 miles and with the exact vin# as the listing for the engine that I have bought.
Is there a serial number on the engine that can be matched to the vehicle vin#?

This is for the 5.3 engines, yours should be similar or the same I think.
The vehicle identification number (VIN) is located on the left side rear of the engine block (1) and is
typically a 9 digit number stamped or laser-etched onto the engine at the vehicle assembly plant.
• The first digit identifies the division.
• The second digit identifies the model year.
• The third digit identifies the assembly plant.
• The fourth through ninth digits are the last 6 digits of the VIN.

Sales
There's a lot of people that have jumped on
the LS bandwagon selling parts to make a buck,
not all are reliable sellers. so buyer beware.
I hear a lot of horror stories about engines not
being what there sold as. I mostly deal with
salvage yards that have a BBB rating, yes i pay
a little more but there stuff is guaranteed and
no BS on a bad part.

This is like how every Gen 3 6 liter for sale is an LQ9 with like 90000 miles at most on it lol. The block is stamped on the drivers side above the oil filter with the last 8 or 9 digits of the vin of the vehicle it came from. Be warned the dot matrix stamping is a pain in the *** to read and get correct... i went through this with an engine i had gotten from a wrecking yard. A dealership can decode that for you.

The seller would'nt give me the refund but showed all proof to paypal and they forced a nice refund back.
So is there a way to match an engine to vehicle using the engine serial#?
