Default Mass Air Flow Meter

I was wondering if anyone has tried this.A friend of mine has a 02 ss camaro and he took the MAF meter off and cut the screen out and port and polished it.He told me that he has seen people with trucks like mine do it also on here.So I did mine. Now I have trouble with mine at full throttle, going down the road and sometimes surges, and every once in a while when i crank it it will die like it is out of gas and my service engine soon light comes on.PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Mike

It is a bad idea to cut the piece of metal that goes across the MAF sensor. Removing the screen is ok though. If you look around enough you can find one for about 25 dollars maybe less. Try the classifieds on this and other various truck performance web sites, but remember the truck MAF and Fbody MAF sensors are different.

Thats the only thing I did was removed the screen. The rest I just kinda cleaned up the metal and polished.I didn't cut any metal out.

Thanks,
Mike

Pull the plug on it. See if it runs the same with it unplugged as it does plugged in. If so, then you damaged the sensors somehow and will need to buy another one. Ask your friend to help you buy a new one.

Sorry dude, I have read about LS1 guys cutting the metal piece out so I assumed that's what you did. If I see one for sale cheap on the net I will let you know.

We have a different MAF than the LS1 cars. The porting doesn't work quite the same. But it does sound like yours is messed up.
