manual tranny ?
I would like to have a manual transmission in my 01 5.3 if my 4l60e ever went out. Can this be done and still make the cluster and everything work right. I would like to make it a 6 speed if any way possible.

Well, they make the standard 3/4 ton with a 6spd and a 6L. So, everything should bolt up if you get right donor truck. I don't think the clusters care what they're plugged into. I tried a cluster with a tranny gauge in mine and it had the odometer reading from the other rig. I'ld swap the main brain aswell, or edit for std.

Here's some more food for thought:

You might want to check out this thread for more thoughts on the subject of a tranny swap (I thought it would be cool to swap the 4L60E for a TH400) and how it works with the electronics. There seems to be some slight disagreement...

Re: manual tranny ?
When I ordered my 99 Silverado in the fall of 98 I wanted a manual trans. I wanted the 5.3 liter V8 LS-1 engine, but found out I could only get the manual trans. with the 4.8 liter V8. I'd check with the dealership or go online to find out if things have changed since then to allow you to mate a 5.3 to a manual trans. A six speed would be nice, but with my 5 speed and 3.42 gears I'm only turning 1,900 RPM in overdrive at 70 MPH. I can even smoke the tires in 1st and 2nd gears with that tall gear. I tow a boat so I like the engine spinning slowly while towing because it's a 100 mile round trip to the saltwater marsh. I get a little over 20 MPG while towing at 70 MPH.

The 6-speed is only available on 8.1 & Duramax trucks.

Re: manual tranny ?
The 4.8, 5.3, & 6.0 engines must be fairly rare (at least around here). I try to keep a variety of VIN's on hand to cover the different combinations when we do swaps and conversions, but I have yet to come up with ANY manual trans VIN's for the LS1 type truck engines. Are they that scarce or have I been looking at the wrong times?? I try to make regular visits to the dealerships, and it's just automatic after automatic after automatic! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />
