Not to start a commotion but if shorties really suck then how am i making 304 at the rear wheels? We all know intake and cat backs dont add that much, right? Is the tune really giving me 65hp?
Not trying to be a smart ***, and i agree LT's are Da'kine but shorties do give me something and THEY'RE LEGAL. Cops around here are checking, sideshows are causing problems!

I've seen shorties give only 8-12 hp to the wheels at the very most. Which ones do you have?

A common average for a high output 5.3 is around 260-270rwhp. Not sure where you get the 65 hp figure from. A tune is worth 20-25 alone, intake 10, and shorties 10. I would highly doubt that you got anything greater than 10-12 rwhp from the shorties. There are many magazine write ups, that average about 8-12 rwhp.

At $400.00 plus installation, I think there are better ways tp spend the money.

65 hp? Figuring a minimal 20% drivetrain loss (4WD) and currently making 304.3 RWHP would put FWHP at roughly 365+ for a gain of ooops 55hp or better?
So you are correct then if i got 10 for intake and 10 for catback and 10 for shorty's and 25 for the tune it puts me in the ball park.

Is my math ok?

PS; didn't intend on hyjacking this thread but was curious.

Pacesetters are what everyone is getting these days. Very affordable and good quality. I know they offer an off road pipe and may even offer a catted y-pipe, they are quite a bargain at $400.00 for the headers w/o the y-pipe.

the only thing that is legal here in cali are shorties. Mids and Long tubes wont pass visual. Only get them if you plan to either taking them off come inspection time and putting back the stock manifolds and stuff, or if you know a place that wont look. And I'm going to agree with the poster who said shorties aren't worth it. Spend that money on something else, or save it for some engine mods later.
