First off, welcome! Secondly, the number one thing that you'll learn, don't buy cheap stuff just because you're on a budget. You're better off saving for things, than to buy junk and constantly replace it. The best thing you can do is to strictly save money, and then go from there. Don't cheap out, regardless of your budget.

also why start with a 4.3 ? if its mpg your needing get a 4.8 rcsb then get a nice tune and it will be faster then a 4.3 with the same mpg if not better mpg .

Honestly there's nothing worth saving for to make a 4.3 fast...

You could have it tuned and put a 150 shot on it but 4.3's dont go fast in halfton trucks....

a 05+ rcsb with a 5.3 with a tune, vette servo, and circle d 3200 stall, would be fun and quick with good freeway mpg and not break the bank .

Best mod is getting rid of the 4.3 v6, and dropping any V8 in there.

I'm under the impression that this truck is being handed down to you, not went out and bought. If the truck's being bought, then just get a 4.8/5.3. You can find them for right around the same price.

If you're set on the 4.3 though, I'm not going to be the guy to waste my time trying to convince you of any different. Just get exhaust, intake, tune. Then, go from there. Check out the sponsors of the site for tunes, and research threads on exhausts/intakes.
