Default Which magnaflow for 04 ECSB 5.3?

Anybody used the Magnaflow 12259 or 12289 in a stockish Gen 3 truck?

I'm looking to swap my stock muffler out for something with a bit more sound. I need it to be kid friendly with little/no in-cab drone. I can't decide between the Magnaflow 12589 (22" body) and the 12259 (18"). I would like the sound of the smaller muffler but I don't want significant in-cab drone.

04 ECSB Truck is box stock now. I'm talking about just swapping the muffler out and re-using the stock exhaust pipe exit at stock location.

I had the 12219 on my 5.3 Sierra, sounded great with little to no in cab noise on the freeway or at steady speed. Was like stock going 70mph.

With the cats still there, drone will not happen.

Gamble- whats your setup, any mods or just the muffler?

Since I'm planning on swapping to a built 5.3 and headers, I'm leaning toward the 22" muffler to make sure it doesn't get loud with future mods. But I'd like at least enough sound to be noticeable outside.

I'm not sure the cats totally eliminate drone. My stock system now hums inside the truck from 1500-2000 RPM. I have to turn off the radio to notice it, but it is there if you go looking for it.

Any other opinions?

I LOVE my new 3" Dynomax welded ultraflow round muffler. Before I added the tailpipe, it was mean as hell and very loud. But with adding the tail pipe over the rear axle, it still sounds great when I go WOT, but is very tame and tolerable under normal driving. All my friends say its much quieter now.

PN 17223.

My setup is quite simple really. I have some stainless 13/4 headers into 3" collectors and ypipe into a stock tailpipe with a 3"x22" magnaflow with no cats. Sounds pretty quiet in my stock 4.8, but you know it's there when you mash the skinny peddle.

I have a 04 ecsb with a cammed ls1 and arh headers with cats. I just added the magnaflow 22 inch case but in a 3 1/2 inch in/out. Its really quiet at idle and while cruising, sounds really good at wot.

I have a 22" magnaflow dual 3" in/out with build in x pipe. It sounds good, really bassy and tame. Slight bassy drone, but mainly due to it is dumped before the rear axel. To tame for my liking though. I'm looking into bassani now but its hard to find any videos besides on mustangs

I ordered the 12589, 22 inch body with 3" offset inlet/outlet. I decided to go with a sleeper approach since the truck looks stock. I'll keep it quiet and surprise people with how it runs.

Would you guys re-use the stock 2.75" exhaust or have full 3" pipe installed with the new muffler? Exiting at the stock location.
