MAF Screen??
#1
I just got a descreened MAF. I have heard about probs with running a descreened MAF, people saying it just doesn't feel the same. Is this true for everyone?? I would like to put the screen back in and I am not sure if it can be done without breaking the screen in my old MAF. IS is possible?? Thanks.

A descreened MAF can cause problems, not saying it will...but it can. My old '99 was descreened and did not really notice any power gains and I believe it actually got slower over time. My newer '01 is still screened and will stay that way.
I have also read it is harder to tune a vehicle with a descreened MAF than a stock one.
With anything...you get what you pay for, if it is cheap it probably will not work too well.

Hey hitman, sounds like you were lecturing at the end
Its all good, 30 bucks isn't a bad price though. Main question can the screen be safely taken out of my burned up one safely?

I think that you can replace the screen because some people on other forums say that they have removed the screen before and put it back on without any problems. Sorry, I can't say that I have done it myself

You should be easily able to pull the screen out of the bad MAF and put it in the good MAF. Just take your time and be careful.
I'd just use my fingers and thumbs to pop the screen out and to reinstall it.

Those little screens are some delicate SOB's.
Try taking a straight screwdriver and gently tapping around the edges of it until it comes out. The ones I've taken out don't seem to just pop out. Just be careful and patient.

I could and maybe I will try it someday when I finally make it to the track, try it with one time I go and try it without the next time. I had to use a razor blade and go around the edge after cracking it in a couple places!!! Finally got it out, tempted to epoxy it in, but there is a shoulder there, so there is no need, just push it in and bolted her in. Away we go, finally THROTTLE RESPONSE!!!
