Mad wheel hop with eaton
#1
It seems I just suddenly started to get nasty wheel hop when trying to burn the tires. About 4 months ago I had a set of 3.73's installed and a Eaton posi. The weird thing is that after letting it break in, there was no wheel hop, none at all. Now there is tons to where I can't read the clock, when trying to power-break it or even squealing them from a stop. I need some help figuring this out. thanks

As your tires wear down your traction is going to INCREASE (more rubber touching to road)....you may just be to the point on the tire tread depth that the tires are getting too much traction for the suspension to handle so it flexes and the wheels start to hop

Tires wearing down is reasonable, but I have my stockers right now on, but with my Toyo's which have good tread and my stockers with bad, they both hop so bad its unbelievable.
It was never like this as both would spin and spin and never have any hop about 1 month ago and I have maybe put 15 miles on the stockers since then and 200 on the Toyo's.
I keep thinking its the locker doing something different or acting up, but I dont know.

Try reducing your rear tire pressures, you'll be amazed how much that helps. Then you can look into suspension mods traction bars, better shocks and front swaybar removal as a last resort.Your rear tires are acting like a suspension spring the more pressure the stiffer the spring, the stiffer the spring the more bounce or in this case wheelhop.

Shocks are Toxic drop shocks. I have had them for 8 months.
I am just wondering why it used to not hop at all and now it does. Even with the same pressure in the rear tires, probably less on the rear then there was. I will try reducing the pressure some more and see how it goes.

I have the same problem with my truck now. I was told by some guys at the track in Edinburg that it was my shocks. After installing a new set of air shocks about a week ago it is still doing it. I cant even do a burnout in a puddle of water without it hopping around. I am starting to hate this ****. My gears and locker are only about 6 months old!

Off topic... but how much performance differance (if any) could you tell from changing to 3.73's with posi from 3.42's and open diff? I would do 3.90 or 4.10's, but gas miliage is somewhat important to a broke student!
Thanks
