as&m header question
#1
a friend of mine is considering getting some new headers and i suggested the as&m's. however, i have been reading some posts about people having some problems with the steering column and the header. has everyone that has done the as&m's run into this problem? is this problem easily fixed or do you have to cut certain things? thanks for the help..........

Mine fit just fine clearing the column by a little more than half an inch. But, no two headers are exactly bent the same. They are awesome headers, but they could have sprayed a little thicker on the ceramic coating for the $700

I had clearance problems with the steering shaft and the other side leaked on 3 cylinders.I talked to Ben @ asm and he sent out another set and they fit perfect

I just finished installing my ASMs. I have an 03 but everything should be similar to previous years, except maybe the cats.
Anyway everything went in no problem. The steering shaft is close but not so close that it caused a problem.
I didnt get the ceramic coating and the stainless looks really nice. I dont have any leaks and the power increase is DEFINITELY noticeable. The engine seems to rev faster and sounds CRAZY mean. It's actually amazing how much different it sounds with the headers.
The only thing you will have to deal with is going to a muffler shop after the install to have them weld up all the piping. For my truck this cost $150! Of course the shop I took it too isnt the cheapest but they do SERIOUSLY quality work. The muffler shop spent at least 2+ hours cutting off the factory cats, re-welding them, etc. This might have been because my truck is an 03. The 03's do have different 02 sensors so maybe the cat placement is different as well.
Anyway I highly recommend these headers! You won't be disappointed!

Yeah, I had clearance probs with the steering shaft and the pass side was a **** to put on. Not the hardest headers I have ever put on but definitely not the easiest. They sound just like stock and the finish already looks like crap. There are probably better headers out there but I went with what it seemed everybody else was running. Glad I went my own way on the torque converter, though.

Im surprised you think they sound just like stock! My engine sounds COMPLETELY different after the headers! The engine sounds more like a vette or camaro!
What finish did you get? The ceramic right? I guess the stainless is the way to go.
