I agree skeet, back in about 05 or so when the vic jr's were getting out for the ls, I put one of those setups on "the Woodhauler's" 408 that I built for his 02 rcsb. It wasnt the fast but it was a edelbrock 4bbl tb. It is an awesome setup cause it was already running sd, and the vic jrs flow awesome up past 5500 or so, and with the verter he has shift extension from 6600 to 6700 only drops to about 5500 or 5600. I just wouldn't carb it...lol. The vic jr makes great top end power tho.

For me it would depend on a lot of variables. I probably wouldn't waste the money to convert a carbed SBC or BBC to EFI.

If the car already has later model EFI I'd probably keep it to a point. If the car became more of a race car than street car I'd probably get rid of the EFI and go with a carb.

If the car is a daily driver I'd rather have EFI. But obviously a carb on a daily driver works good enough.

On the street for everyday driving EFI shines. But at the dragstrip EFI hasn't got anything on a good ole carb. That's why you still see so many carbs at the dragstrip. If EFI was worth the trouble and money you'd see more guys at the track converting over to EFI, but they still run carbs.

Most of the cars at the dragstrip running EFI are cars that came with EFI from the factory. Most carb guys don't waste the money to convert to EFI because they can go just as quick with a carburetor.

Most of the time we race 1/8th of a mile in the sand with 4WD LO.. by the time we pass the finish line we are in 4th gear at around 5000rpm's.. Everyone keeps telling me to switch to a carbureted setup but I love the way EFI has a quick-great-accurate-constant response and I keep seeing a bunch of carburated guys in their trucks farting thru the whole race in their fancys 1988ish silverados..
I wish I knew if I could get as much or close to the power they are getting from switching to carbs with a FAST LsXRT ana a Nick Williams 102mm tb cause they are around the same price.. Would a FAST setup help in this kind of race? Cause I keep hearing you loose top end or something like that.. In case I go for the fast setup, what king of heads would be a good upgrade from my potted and polished 862's?? Thanks buddies!

I love carbs, but if your truck were mine I don't think I'd be tearing the EFI off of it just yet if you still drive it on the street a lot. That's a lot of expensive technology to pull off and throw in a box. Plus on your 06 truck swapping to a carb would probably hurt your resale value a lot.

I'd keep the EFI until you get really serious about racing. Only then would I chunk the EFI in a box and go carb.

Those guys you refer to in the 1988ish Silverados never had to make the choice between a nice late model EFI setup and a carb. A carb was the logical choice for them.

I threw together a 86 siverado with a carb'd lq9 about a year ago and it ran decent. but if i was to do it over again it would have 8 squirters! stick with the fast/102 combo. with a good tune i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be satisfied with it.
