Without resleeving the block, which is some $$$, you can only go to 3.905" bore or there abouts on that block. Can get a 4" stroker kit and make it a 383 though.

Well just look at the cubes, man. While a 5.3 could make a really nice DD engine and get you well into the 13's or lower, there's no replacement for displacement. A stock LS6 is 346 cubes, a 5.3 is 325, and a 6.0 is 364. Purely looking at the respective displacements tells you that a better platform to build upon is a 6.0, but sometimes the entry fee into the 6.0 world is more than what some folks want to do.

An LS6 would be a fine engine to build if the price is right, but run the numbers to make sure you're getting the best bang for your buck. A 6.0 has more potential due to the 4" bore which will inherently flow better if you hold constant the set of heads, but still, an LS6 is waay better than a 5.3 if you're gonna build them the same.

It's up to you, man. If it were me, I'd sit on my money until a 6.0 in some configuration or another came along. If you're patient, you can get some killer deals out there.

X2 on waiting for a 6.0. I was going to have a stroker kit put in my 5.3 last year but I waited to get a 6.0, 3 months later I bought a 18K longblock LY6 6.0 for half of what I was going to spend on the stroker upgrade. Time is on your side, don't rush into purchasing an engine until you have checked it out, or had a mechanic buddy check it out if your not savy on internals like me.
